Forums - Microsoft - Xbox to take over entire Ad Break (THIS IS BIG)

Lips and DJ Hero really ?? LIPS !!

I know they are going with a music theme and all but the music genre is in a serious decline nobody wants to spend $120 on a single game when they already have their own plastic crap from GH/RB, hell even the Beatles didn't sit the world on fire in the UK.

It would have been better to sell Forza 3 and show some MW2 ads with only the Xbox logo.

from an advertising standpoint this is huge, no one ever goes for a full 2 min. wow.

2 min? What? Is that the entire length of your commercial break?! We have atleast 5min (about 10 commercials á 30sec) and then the specific channel show upcomming shows and trailers, and then we're back.

*high fives ms*

Bad move!

The cost of an entire ad break will not establish XBOX any more than half of that same ad break. Which is why this is a "waste" of money. But sure, if you got the money to spend go for it. But this is not cost efficent.

Nice to see that your more than just a PS3 fanboy!  Now your an advertisement analyst!!! YAY for you......  I am sure microsoft has entire teams of those guys so I would guess they know a few more things about advertising than you do.

Sounds like Microsoft is going to spend heavily on advertisements this season.  And that is never a bad thing if you want to increase market share.

I find it weird that they're advertising in a show similar to American Idol in the U.S. I mean, if you look at the demographics for those type of show they usually aim for young, young adult, to middle age females. Not that there's no guys that would watch a show like that but even if they find Lips or DJ Hero appealing do you really think there are that many console owners in that demographic??

I would imagine they are gearing some of these advertisements towards parents.  Parents are the ones who actually have money to make a purchase.

When I was young my mom or dad would always buy a game or something for me as a surprise gift that I had no idea I was going to get.  I wonder how many million people do the same thing for their kids?  You can't just simply gear most of your advertisement for the younger kids out there.

You're probably right, parents would find those games appropriate for their families.

In NA for a 30 min show, you have about 8 min of commercials or 4 commercials spots of 2 min with (generally) 30 sec commercials, this can vary usally between 30 secs and 60 secs more.

As an advertising major this thread is my bread and butter

Bitching what? I think you just don't understand.

I agree that X factor for the UK is as big if not bigger as American Idol for the US but what I said (I'll highlight it so that it looks more clear to you) is that what's important for a company is the amount of people and not a pourcentage of population or a proportion.

Now let's try to see if you understand with a question: Which ad would cost the most (in terms of money of course), an X factor ad or an Amercan Idol ad?

It sure is the best solution to advertise the 360 in UK but we were comparing both shows. No need to get sentimental over this.

Microsoft UK is not gonna buy ads in the States.

And X-Factor is bigger in the UK than American Idol is in the States.
