Forums - Nintendo - Iwata (not laughing): ' We failed with the Wii'

Guess I was right on my last post in this thread.....sad...really sad..

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

2008 sales were 24.2 million based on VGChartz.
2009 sales are tracking to be around 20-21 millions

2010 sales will be bellow 20 millions...( hard to estimate before 2009 holydays is over, if I had to guess right now I would say bellow 18 millions).

This is all calendar year not fiscal.

I'd take that bet.  No way sales are gonna be that low.  I'm not sure they're gonna beat 2008's numbers, but they're definitely gonna beat 2009's.

You do realize that 18 millions console sold in any given year is actually not low ?

For starter Q1 2010 will be significantly lower than Q1 2009 even with NSMBWii.

Q1 2009 benefited from Wii stocks being totally depleted during the Chrismas period and on top of regular console sales, Nintendo spent the whole quarter building up retailers inventory....( coudn't find a Wii in the US on January 2nd 20009 but at the end of the quarters most retailers had Wii pyramids standing on display)

C'mon, Ail.  You know I'm using the word "low" in reference to the 20 million and 24.2 million figures.  Or atleast you should've known that anyways.

I agree with you that Q1 2010 just might be lower than Q1 2009 - but the rest of year will see Wii up YoY from month to month.

and nobody corrects the thread name yet?theres a big difference in the implication between stalling AND failing.

you can't correct a thread name intro

They either need to whip out an HD add on or lower the price more than they have. It really doesnt make sense to be selling it at 199 when the 360, and HD console) is also 199.

If consumers are will to buy it at $200, then why not?

You know you are a customer...

So what's exactly is your angle in encouraging companies to rip you off ???

It has nothing to do with being ripped off. It's just economics 101. Consumers demand the product at different level at different prices. If consumers are willing to buy it at $200, then I don't see a problem. The PS3 was not being bought at $600, so the price dropped to a level consumers felt was reasonably price.

The only way to get a company to make great games I think is to buy them. If you do that then they have to work on a game in order to get people to buy them. Look at some of the most popular games like GH,MOH, and COD. When you put time into game you will get better resolute in your sales.
