Haha, so in the end the corrections were just that Wii slowed down in sales? Like everyone said that actually read the OP :P wow brilliant.

And lost momentum on a weak software lineup

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

^Whether its failed or stalled, the point is still the same, Nintendo didn't deliver the software they needed and Wii lost momentum

And i know ur posting that because you want this thread to continue. And since Im not in serious discussions for awhile and because my predictions are wrong I think Nintendo didnt deliver the momentum in Wii Music and AC:CF. But the sales are going up in these coming months after the launch of WSR and now with Wii Fit plus and NSMB Wii I think that helps the Wii to keep up with the momnetum till Metroid other M and SMG 2 arrives.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

Sony and MS, while selling low and bleeding money like an amputee: "We're the greatest! Our product DOMINATES the home console market! Blah blah blah..."

Nintendo, while actually dominating the home console market: "We've failed and we can do better."

This is what differentiates Nintendo from the rest.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

and not the price drop?

Going by yor logic, MARIO AND SONIC sold more consoles than WSR.

Aye, its purely a first party issue that Iwata is referring to

Here's your mistake: it's all about 3rd parties as well... Nintendo can't sustain the Wii momentum with their 1st party line-up ONLY...

It reminds me another discussion we had earlier this week: i was tellin' you that as long as the best multiplatform games can't be released on Wii just as on PS360, Wii wouldn't be a "real" market leader, and that the momentum could disappear just as fast as it has appeared...

You didn't want to believe me, and now that even the biggest heads in the company admit it, you're still refusing to face the truth... and you tell us there's "too much stupidity in this thread"? Easy to blame (or even insult) all the people who don't agree with your narrow-mindness...

Back on topic: of course, Nintendo could release even more games all by themselves... but when a game like Zelda now takes easily 3 or 4 years to be made, and with one of their biggest teams, it won't happen, they just can't do it... unless they create more teams, or hire hundreds of new talents... or buy some 2nd party, or do partnerships with some of the best 3rd parties... they have to MOVE, and be creative with all their past profits...

In the meantime, what is needed is a more powerful hardware, a kind of "Wii+", to convince 3rd parties that all their games have to be released on Wii as well... as long as the Wii will be considered as a totally different market, in a niche of its own, where expensive and exclusive efforts won't do profits, the situation will not miraculously change: the console needs more AAA games, 1st party PLUS 3rd party... that's all...

The issue isn't that third parties failed to deliver the software 68soul, it was Nintendo that screwed up with animal crossing and Wii Music and not having anything to expand upon the Wiimote/motion plus and the balance board, it has nothing to do with third parties, if Nintendo had been on top of their game, they could have done it themselves.

No sorry, the multiplat games aren't what define the leader, or sell to the widest audience, Nintendo titles have done that, and its the lack of Nintendo titles that continued that trend that is the reason for the lost momentum.

New hardware and even just another Zelda won't do it, the next Zelda has to be able to really define what the motion plus can do, and really take it further than Wii Sports resort, but Nintendo didn't do that earlier with other games, this is where their failing is. New Hardware won't rectify the problem because New Hardware doesn't automatically make new software, you have to have the software that can define and expand on the hardware, and Nintendo doesn't have that yet.

Oh man I love Nintendo. They failed to reach their ridiculously lofty goals, and accidentally ONLY made the most successful revolution of video game history in the areas of controls, marketing, market expansion, making the industry more mainstream and accepted by families, girls, older gamers, lapsed gamers, convalescent homes, rehabilitation clinics, cruise ships, and even played live at the Oscars, and they also had the greatest comeback of all time in this industry, and did it with cheap outdated tech to boot! But that's not good enough for Nintendo. They want MOAR!!!

Damn! That's just the best post ever.

You know what? The shame isn't on Ninty, but on the 3rd-parties!

I believe that what Iwata is saying betwen the lines is:

"f*ck you third-parties! if you don't want to earn money, f*ck you!

"We know were we've mistaken: we thought that by now you would be putting your souls on games for Wii, but you aren't. What now? Now we will forget about you and awaken our software factory and overrun the market with Zelda, Starfox, Metroid, Mario. Wii lost its momentum and that was our fault: we trusted you!

"Now we know: forget about the 3rd-parties, release games non-stop and just forget about them: let them try to sell by matching our quality."

"How hard would it be to randomize facial features and skin tones? That's what we want, to feel like we're killing hundreds of different people. Not a bunch of clones or twins. We want to know, deep down, that there are hundreds of grieving mothers out there, lamenting the terror of our dreaded blade."
