As A huge Ninty fan I have to give this over to the ps1. Not because Sony ever came close to matching the great Ninty games, but because the third parties did a great job on "that" system. I love my N64 but for good third party support I would go with ps1 for that reason only.

Does that mean you think both PS3 and 360 are better than the Wii?

Its a pretty safe bet to say that biase and fanboy bullshit will destabilize objective analysis of this generation for atleast another 20 years.

Way too soon to call.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Lets compare the two. PS1 features to the left. N64 features to the right.

Graphics: PS1>N64
Loading Time: PS1Controllers: Original PS1Control Stick. N64 Wins because PS1 had to buy a Multitap
Memory: PS1(had to buy a memory card)Games: Lets do this by genres

JRPG- PS1
WRPG- PS1
Shooters- PS1(even though N64 had the best shooter)
Platforming Games- N64(DK64, SM64, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie)
Fighting- N64(Super Smash Bros.)
Racing- PS1(not even close)
Sports- equal
Action- PS1(both had some good fun action games, but PS1 had more)

Based on these things:
PS1:7
N64:6

I had both consoles and I loved them both, but PS1 gets the slight edge.

The bolded is absolutely wrong....the N64 easily had more power than the ps1....no contest.

Depends.  N64 probably wins out, but I'd definitely say PS1 did some things better.

What I'd disagree with are his genre wins.  PS1 killed N64 in fighters, and vice versa for fps.  Both sucked for WRPGs, but both rocked for racers.

On a pure technical level , the N64 absolutely destroyed the ps1......look at games like donkey kong 64 , OoT and many more on the N64 that had no equal on the ps1.

What are those "things" the ps1 did better?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Do I have to make a wiki page to prove that N64>PS1?

Its undeniable that the N64 was the only system of the 5th generation......the rest died when the 6th gen started.

Go for it.

Mainly texture resolution and variety, due to N64's paltry 4kb texture limit and cart media.  PS1 games tended to have better framerates too imo.

Of course going "to the metal" on N64 resulted in games that PS1 just flat out couldn't have run.  Conker's Bad Fur Day or Battle for Naboo being good examples, they go well beyond *anything* on PS1 visually.  Still, I think some PS1 games like Tobal 2 or Vagrant Story are equally impressive in their own way.

Well N64 had Zelda so for me N64 > PS1

But both consoles had a great library of games, especially the RPG's on the PS1

That may be true to some extent, but you also have to take in that people change so do there taste. While last gen I played my ps2 more than my Gamecube again because of third party games. Devil May Cry being one of the biggest reasons. While I still might enjoy some of these games on my Ps1 Ps2 My taste have changed or just got bored of thoose types of games. My love for Nintendo made games is one of the only taste in gaming that seems to have not changed much over the years. My taste was actually changing some in the PS2 days. For instance, I have God of War 1+2  I enjoyed them both, but I really do not see why they are up thier as some of the greatest games. I do not really play thoose two games anymore and I will probably never play GoW3.  Also, I was still in love with all things Square back then. Not so much anymore. I could care less about the next FF game on any platform.  Oddly I still love the older ones. and still love Kingdom Heart games. Anyways, I am typeing to much so I am done

I would say:
CD Size > Cartridge Size back in the N64 and PS1 era.
Both consoles were good. I bought the N64 first then I got a PS1 and I gotta say I enjoyed more games on the PS1. I think N64 would have dominated if Nintendo would have chosen a bigger size media.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

Sign me up!!!

FFVII = greatest game of all time.

this is fail....most ps1 games were ported to PC anyway so you cant include those. I, however, was able to play all of my ps1 games using Bleem! for the pc so I was lucky enough to skip the ps1 entirely and just concentrate on my N64.
