I personally hope for Wii 2 to have carts.

It's true that over the course of this gen the Wii has a built lead over PS3 that is almost insurmountable. But looking at just this past year and especially in Japan, for a console that has been considerably more expensive than the Wii, the PS3 has been holding its own just fine with Wii and has beaten the Wii several weeks of this year.
Also, the PS3's price cut was arguably what was responsible for the Wii's own price cut that even with a couple of big game releases has yet to completely shut down the battle between PS3 and Wii this year in Japan.
Most analysts predict that blu-ray will really start to become the mainstream format in 2010. Big releases like The Lord of the Rings on blu-ray next month will help with that.

Just as an observation ...
Since before the original XBox was released, everything HDTV has been just 1 or 2 years away from becomming mainstream and yet the majority of people seem unwilling to adopt to HD formats until they don't have an option anymore. Realistically, I wouldn't expect more than 33% of people to care about Blu-Ray until most people have a Blu-Ray playing device in their home that they purchased for a reason besides playing HD movies.

In Japan, MH3 came out in August, and Tales of Graces (has a bundle), SRW Neo, Samurai Warriors 3 (has a bundle), etc. and NSMB are coming later too. The Wii's Japan library is arguable better than the PS3's library despite FF XIII. They just need more games, that's all. |
Yes, but it seems like none of those games have really been moving that much new Wii hardware. Titles like WSR and Wii Fit have already been released.
Monster Hunter 3 would have done just as well on PS3.
It seems like developers that could be making those other games typically prefer to work on PS3 instead of the Wii for some reason. For instance there have been at least three to four new jrpgs announced for PS3 over the last month. And, I don't remember one for Wii.
The PS3 is also getting Resonance of Fate and Bayonetta and Modern Warfare 2 in the West. Titles that aren't coming to the Wii.
I think developers are more excited to work on PS3 technology than that of Wii and dismal sales for key games despite the Wii's large install base surely haven't endeared it that much more with developers.
Nintendo needs something fresh.
No way it comes out in 2010. Would they really put out a successor to the fastest selling console of all time after just 4 years? No way 2012 at the earliest. I say the Wii gets at least 6 years before they put out a Wii 2.
Sounds extremely made up to me. I seriously doubt Nintendo would use the property format of one of its main competitors, and there's no way they'd release a new console as early as 2010 off the heels of the most successful console of all time.

MH3 could maybe have done better on the PS3 but it would be more expensive, Sony doesn't have enough marketing experience for a game like MH. Nintendo is going to market MH like Pokemon. |
They've sold enough copies on PSP.
I still maintain that No More Heroes would have done quite well on either 360 or PS3 and probably sold closer to a million than to 500,00 copies.
What I want to know is why anyone would think this a good rumour to spread.
Blu Ray? Every single Nintendo console has used a proprietary format to reduce costs and stop piracy (believe me, blu ray will not be piracy immune in the future)
3rd quarter 2010? wtf? That would make Nintendo most successful generation (ie the Wii) ever its shortest The GC had 5 years in the spotlight. The N64 had 5 years in the spotlight. The SNES had 5 ye... YOU GOT THE POINT! The Wii 2 will release November 2011, unless they delay it due to the success of the Wii. The DS 2 will release before the Wii 2 anyway.
Simultaneous release?? Why? All consoles last gen were supply constrained at launch, there's no point to this.
This is fake.
Nintendo has for a long time used mature, tried and true technology, in there products. Even the Wiimote has mature tech, just used in an unprecedented way. I dont think anything here is true, or the facts are skewed.
1) Blu-ray. Sure Nintendo may detect a need for larger storage capacity when they move to HD, but honestly I see them using large DVDs. This has a benefit to all involved. Blu-rays are expensive to stamp and the drives are expensive which would drive up the cost to consumers for both HW and SW.
2)A trade in process is possible bu doubtful. If anything I see Nintendo offering a recycling option in which turning in a Wii will reduce the cost to consumer for the Wii 2. They will tout this as a "green movement" and generate alot of positve buzz. I have no idea what nintendo could possible do with 100m Wii consoles...perhaps use refurbished Wiis to enter poorer markets around the world.
3)Wii 2? HAHAHA...nope it's Wii Too
4)1080p is unlikely. 720p is pretty enough for most consumers and requires less HW power. Nintendo could argue the cost savings for the console and also the energy cost savings
5)Worldwide launch with 1 month notice. Not gonna happen... it requires too much work and expense, plus people will learn about Wii too when nintendo announces incredibly increased manufacturing costs early in the year in their Annual Report.

I was talking about Monster Hunter has sold several million copies on PSP. You said Sony wouldn't have the marketing experience for it.
NMH would do better on 360 or PS3 because it looks like a sandbox or action adventure game starring Tarantino type characters from its pix. PS3 and 360 fans love games like that. When it was released if it had been on the cover of OXM, it would have sold double what it has so far on Wii. Look at sales for games like The Crackdown and the first Saint's Row.
