If you mean "never reveals specs" as "The first and only time Nintendo didn't release the specs of their console was the Wii" you'd be correct ...

Now, with that said Nintendo is a very secretive company and I can’t think of a single time where a rumour about what they’re doing has turned out to be true; except for the rare occasion where third party publishers have the information and it is widely distributed throughout the company to the extent that an intern or temp could have access to it (like the Wii specs close to its release).

While I don't think who controls the format really matters for Nintendo, being that they have favoured non-standard formats due to piracy protection I think NightDragon is probably correct; and Nintendo would probably favour a variation of the HD-DVD format to Blu-Ray on their next console (as a game format anyways).

The only reason I'm even mildly entertaining this notion is their past performance. Even then...

Suffice it to say that if this IS somehow true, I think Nintendo's probably making a mistake.

Whilst this would be fairly good news if the "new" console could coexist with the current Wii i doubt this is true. Nintendo are just too good at keeping secrets.
