Forums - Sales - Did the price cut really helps the PS3 and the Wii? Or its just temporary?

Obviously it's temporary... Microsoft knows better.

Ironic... because this site always posts thread and articles of a man that makes long blogs on how the gaming industry was doomed. I betcha if I become like good blogger like Malstrom you will post my blogs too.

Malstrom is also shit, but a more entertaining writer.

The question was serious though, and from my point of view more serious than your recent posts; Why do you find videogames so depressing that you feel that need to start the-industry-is-doomed discussions about it all the time? Why start so many topics? They're all pretty much the same anyway. When you run out of arguments in one, you just start it over again.

Dont put words not in my own mouth. You can say that in my recent threads but have you seen it in my recent posts? In this thread title? In the OP post? I think its because it was true thats why youre attacking the TC instead.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

If moving off the bottom of the weekly console sales charts and more than tripling sales from previous months isn't progressive (not helping) then I don't know what is.

Temporary???

Everything in life IS temporary.

If you mean the Wii did the Wii have more sales weekly last year compared to this year?

Yush, it's all relative. Recently a lot has been said about the wii YoY decrease in sales and the x360 YoY increase in sales.

MS positives:

1) YoY increase is good.

MS negatives:

1) 1yr (1 and a half years in Europe) more time on the market and 22million behind wii.

2) Cheapest console on the market for a while now and still can't compete with wii.

Wii positives:

1) Still kicking as regardless and comfortably outselling the other consoles yearly (don't bring handhelds into the argument).

Wii negatives:

2) YoY sales decline.

PS3 positves:

1) Finally an affordable price and paying dividends.

PS3 negatives:

1) Could all be a little too late but profit at the end of it all is looking likely.

My take...

The Wii pricecut isnt a big deal.. .

The PS3 pricecut is a big deal...

its true with the PS3 that its a big deal. Though i dont get why the Wii needs a price cut. If theres needing of pricecut its the PS3 not the Wii. The Wii isnt competing with the PS360 after all and the PS3 only barely outsell the Wii in month of Spetember anyway...

Though like I said its temporary though we will see about that in the October NPD.

OK; Why do you appear to find video games depressing. It wasn't my intent to put words in your mouth.

Is the Wii selling better than what it was before the price cut? Honestly Nintendo know what they're doing, the Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, NSMBWii and price cut are all going to work in tandem this holiday to push Wii sales higher than last holiday. It wasn't going to happen without the price cut because Nintendo screwed up this year and didn't have the hardware sellers available.

PS3 - It's obviously helped and sales are increasing every week. Sure it's temporary but it'll probably last 6 months or more before the PS3 really starts dropping again.

You must read my last post before this one, Nintendo Wii must outsell or even more their monthly sales last year for the pricecut to be worth it. if not, why even bother with losing potential profit with a 250 dollar console to slash the price at  200?

Business doesn't work that way, there is a certain amount of people that will buy your product at $250. There's a certain number that will buy at $199 etc.. Nintendo obviously weighed up the amount of people that would buy this holiday for $250 and it wasn't enough. It's about momentum in the console business and having a lower amount of sales through the holiday would probably have caused a future price cut to $199 to have a smaller impact.

Trust me, you can't just say 'it has to outsell last year to be worth it' because there are many other factors to consider with a pricing strategy.

Which means you have nothing to say... Even Pachter would predict that this time the Wii's fandom fizzeld out and Nintendo needs a new console Wii HD Wii 2 anything to satisfy the userbase and PS360 should battle with the red ocean with their motion controllers. And make the Wii becomes a cash cow like the PS2 while Ninty will invest in their new console for another blue ocean. And for everyone that quote Pachter's predictions, what he said in the public was just for public enjoyment. I mean aint the gaming community wouldnt have good laughs if not for Pachter's crazy predictions?

And trust me, not everything that Nintendo done was good or for the better of their business...

I betcha even the PS3 equaled or even outsells the Wii in the next NPD even with the price cut you will still say that Good job Nintendo. your Wii was still selling.

I have nothing to say?? I'm gonna be banned one day soon because of you.

YES it helped

and if it is only temporary : HOW DO YOU WANT US TO KNOW !

Because if its only a month of surge of sales that wont help abit either on both companies. Both companies wants long term goal on their pricecut. SONY didnt redesign the PS3 and cut the price in half just for one month surge of sales.

LOL, you are a joke man, "cut the price in half" ...

also it is not like Xbox360 Elite direct competitor gets a price cut AT THE SAME TIME lol

and it is not like the console did 550k first week

= was it worth in term of short term sales (not profit !) = YESSSSSSSSSS

and about longterme effect I ask it to you again :

HOW DO U WANT US TO KNOW WE ARE ONLY 1 MONTH AFTER  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to Work !

Why did Wii sales slow down anyway? PS3 slim probably spurred Ninty to slash sooner, I'm sure they don't want to be over shadowed or looking "light" when people compare system specs and price diff'.

As long as Sony push their marketing, the system will continue to sell, the PS3 is a beauty and the game library is getting better and better. And Ninty, what can I say, some schools in Singapore is using the Wii for PE and the post office in Italy sells the Wii, its so well known now, people are going to continue buying Wii but then just owning less than 5 games -- Wii Sports / Sports Resort with some additional random impulse buys ^^" ... it'll totally go over 60mil I think before the next Wii comes out.

What I'd like to know is why the Wii sales slump months before the price slash though?

Isnt because the Wii have no worthwhile games in holiday 2008 till present why the downward of sales in summer season? And not because people cant afford the Wii even in recession? Because lets admit it, the casuals are too tired of Wii Sports and other 3rd party titles right now why even WM+ and WSR created and Wii fit plus if not for thiose reasons? I think the Wii was already in casual saturation already, Nintendo needs a new content to pleased the casuals...

@ctalkeb-----> The topic is if the pricecut really actually help the PS3 and the Wii. Not why I appear for videogames to be depressing. which leads you not on topic and you only post to troll me.

I find it funny that you are rumbling about the price cuts that worked, and yet you fail to mention the price cut that didn't work, not one bit.

The 360 Elite got a $100 price drop and then MS offered a $50 rebate on top of that.
