clean the disc, probably having trouble reading it, but then managed to do it.
this happen to my wii, with brawl but then it stopped reading disc at all.
it's cheap to fix it happens though Dvd lens can be found for 20$ or less.
I say you push the system. Stop coddling it with breaks and cool surfaces and back massages. If it's gonna break you want it to happen before the warranty expires!
Try it with different TVs, and different PS2 cables if you have them. Try unplugging your cable TV cable to see if the buzzing stops (that problem happens to me sometimes). If none of that causes any change, then it may well be the PS2 that's the problem.
As for the game freezing, it might just be a dirty lens or disc. I doubt very much that it's caused by the PS2 being old.

I had a similar problem with my ps3 when I started playing that.
By any chance does your ps3 power cord have three prongs?
And does your tv have a 3 pronged power cord as well?
ps2 it's one of my most played consoles ever.

The yellow cable is the video cable.thats why you lost your image. I presume something is wrong with it, or something is wrong with your ps2's video output port or something's wrong with your tv's video input port.

A lot of the time, the reason whay video makes that noise is because there are two things hooked up to the tv with a three pronged plug. Whether it be a dvd player, or the tv itself, or anything.
You try a different AV cord? Sometimes when they wear one part will work and the other won't. This happened to my PS2 about 3 years ago and I had to buy a new one to get video.
