I'm pretty sure SFIV used a different engine though. The arcade machine was basically a PC, and the software was most probably developed ad-hoc. Anyway, even if it's not exactly the MT engine that they are porting, having the Wii integrated in their toolchains will grant easier ports. I still can't see why the Wii couldn't run RE5 over updated RE4 tech. It sure looked like RE4 in HD plus some effects to me. |
If it cuts down on development cots, and gets better results. Despite what many think (although I have found there is an understandable reason, but that's another thread), Chop Till You Drop took a lot of effort, including redrawing the polygons by hand, because the engine wouldn't allow an automated reduction. If putting MT on the Wii will allow that, as well as using the TEV shading instead of layering (another thing that had to be done with CTYD), that would again reduce costs and get better results.
So if that finally gets them to make RE5 on the Wii, I'm all for this (not that I can't play the game, just that I want to see it on the Wii and the HD systems).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
