Forums - Nintendo - Capcom brings MT Framework to Wii (engine behind RE5, LP, SF IV, etc.)

Oh cool. I didn't know lost planet 2 used the same engine as RE5

Yeah, pretty much all their HD games are made with this engine. Capcom was smart enough to streamline its development. Maybe that's why they're one of the few that's actually turning a  profit.

I'm pretty sure SFIV used a different engine though. The arcade machine was basically a PC, and the software was most probably developed ad-hoc.

Anyway, even if it's not exactly the MT engine that they are porting, having the Wii integrated in their toolchains will grant easier ports. I still can't see why the Wii couldn't run RE5 over updated RE4 tech. It sure looked like RE4 in HD plus some effects to me.

If it cuts down on development cots, and gets better results. Despite what many think (although I have found there is an understandable reason, but that's another thread), Chop Till You Drop took a lot of effort, including redrawing the polygons by hand, because the engine wouldn't allow an automated reduction. If putting MT on the Wii will allow that, as well as using the TEV shading instead of layering (another thing that had to be done with CTYD), that would again reduce costs and get better results.

So if that finally gets them to make RE5 on the Wii, I'm all for this (not that I can't play the game, just that I want to see it on the Wii and the HD systems).

Bleh. No thanks. No interest in playing watered down hand-me-down ports from the PS3/360.

Dead Rising on Wii wasn't great, I think RE5 would be just as bad. If you really have a hard-on for pointer shooting in RE5 get the Sonywand edition.

Make some new games for the Wii, Capcom.

You don't want RE5 Wii only owners... trust me.

Play part 4 and pretend 5 does not exist. Its better that way.

Who says that putting that engine on the Wii would water them down? Furthermore, who says it can't be used for original games?

And for me it's not the pointer part that matters for RE5 (and that's not much of a killer app for the Wand anyway), it's having it on the Wii.

So does this mean the Wii CAN run the RE5 title screen now?

RE5 is going to be watered down a lot to be put on the Wii.

Really who cares if the Wii has a version ... I'd rather Capcom actually make y'know a real RE game that was actually designed for the machine.

Dead Rising tanked on the Wii too ... I don't think there's much interest from Wii owners in getting ports of old games that are scaled down from their HD counterparts.

I don't think many people played RE5 and said "gee ... the game is pretty good, but I sure would like to play it in fuzzy SD resolution with lowered poly count, jaggies, and most of the lighting effects taken out".

i already have RE5, but i wouldn't mind a wii version of RE5 without the CO-OP crap

"RE5 is going to be watered down a lot to be put on the Wii."

How? The basic design is RE4 with co-op. Even the latter would just mean adjusting the game the most. Did you even play RE4?

"I'd rather Capcom actually make y'know a real RE game that was actually designed for the machine."

I'd rather you realize BOTH can happen. It's not as though there is some kind of either/or choice.

Dead Rising was bashed because of the zombie count (seriously, did you even play RE4). And it had no marketing.

"I don't think many people played RE5 and said "gee ... the game is pretty good, but I sure would like to play it in fuzzy SD resolution with lowered poly count, jaggies, and most of the lighting effects taken out". "

Oh, you're a graphics whore with opinion myopia (in the sense of thinking most gamers care about graphics the way you do). That explains it.

No, sorry. The game will come, but without title screen. Of course, instead of lowering the level of detail to much they'll have to take away the bright, open areas and replace them with dark, small areas with lots of fog so you won't see anything.
