Forums - Microsoft - PS3 Getting Netflix & Cross Game Chat , Will you Continue to Pay For Gold?

PSN isn't exactly free... I mean, you could just play games online all the time, but, c'mon.... there's a whole store begging you to play games... Since December of last year, I've gotten:

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online Bundle

Megaman 9, I just got the endless stage mode about 5 days ago.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

--

Jumping Flash! (PSX)

Jumping Flash! 2 (PSX

--

Pistol Whipped (Save your money, it's a dud...)

Nepoleon Dynamite (Rental)

All this adds up to about 100 dollars.  And, if you look at it, my list is really small... I'm sure there's many others that have six times what I do.  Then, pay 50 bucks more?  Why, when I just gave them 100 bucks.  I don't think Sony needs to charge people when they're already paying in some way.

---

But, after my free gold membership ran out... a year ago....  I never did pay to extend it.  No reason to when my brother was already paying... I could just use his.  I would pay 360 a little more if it wasn't so prone to RRoD, E74 issues.  The controller doesn't do fighting games any justice either, and I don't have wifi on my 360... Oh, right, the TV in the computer room is broken, so I can't even play online with the 360...  It's just too much of an issue for me to deal with....  Hell, I won't play 360 without internet, and I wont play PS3 without HD, and internet.

Flamebait threads...VGChartz is getting full of them. "PS3 Getting Netflix & Cross Game Chat , Will you Continue to Pay For Gold?" - from a guy with 30 post, and linked under teh Microsoft section...WTF?!

That might be true. I agree with you. But you also have to consider that these sort of threads thrive because there are some Xbox fans who are bound to be provoked and respond with brain dead contentions like "Netflix-on-Ps3-no-fun-coz-I-have-to-insert-a-disk"

It's funny how Xbox owners complain about using a disc to watch netflix on the ps3 but when Final Fantasy XIII looked like it would have multiple discs and they will have to swap they were fine with that. Which one is more inconvienient, inserting disc for netflix or swapping discs for the same game?

Ya exactly. I had the same stuff in my mind when saw his post. Also I would like to point out that the inconvinience of inserting a disk is better then having to pay free money ($50/year or $8/month) for watching the stuff I already paid for.

Having said that, I do feel this thread with this particular title was unnecessary in the Microsoft forum and I consider this a flame-bait thread.

Yeah, I don't pay for Gold because of Netflix and I had Netflix long before it was available on the 360 so I'll continue to keep both.

And unless the PS3 version has trophies, I'll continue to use it on my 360 since even when not using a disc my PS3 sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Even in that case, I would still only use it the PS3 until I got a platinum.

And I'm curious about the purpose of the disc.

Offtopic i know, but does anyone use Face book or Twitter?

I just dont like face book, im not some 15 year kid with long shaggy hair and skatesboard, just not my thing.

Twitter is just lame, look at me im taking a dump! wohhoo!

OT-  I already hate paying for XBL but im glad i didnt have to wait for those great features to come 3 years later than the rival systems.

The disc is most likely something that will work in all Blu-Ray players that can connect to the internet.  Much like how a Wii disc is inevitable as well.

The PS3 fanboys who rag on XBL completely miss the point as to why XBL is popular. It's not because of Netflix. People pay for live to play the 360's exclusives (Halo and Gears especially since they are mega-popular) and multi-plats that are more popular on the 360 (like CoD) and/or they want to play with their friends (who in North America are more likely to own a 360 because of the much higher install base). There's no need for PSN-exclusive users to justify their XBL non-use to anyone. If you don't have any 360-owning friends and you don't care for the 360's exclusives or care that a number of multi-plats are more popular for online play on the 360, then don't buy XBL Gold. As someone has said on here before, you should be making justifications as to WHY you should buy a luxury product such as a video game console/video game accessory/video game. Not the other way around (making justifications as to why you shouldn't buy one).

unfortunately, my co-workers (who are mostly single) only have xboxes and they're the ones that are into fps. so, i'll probably continue buying the live membership.

if my other friends (married with kids) who have the ps3 get on the fps bandwagon (and have time to play them) then i'll definitely consider dropping live.

but, once my own baby comes along i wonder if i'll have that much time to play at all.

netflix isn't part of the equation at all.

psn is awesome and is just getting better and better, it doesn't really matter which service has has cross game chat or netflix, it matters to which one has more of your friends on it. Ya i kno, that's kind of like following your friends and not going according to what you prefer but in all honestly its just more fun and that's what games are for...fun! i really like the fact psn is free as I could buy a game instead of paying for the $60 per yr(canada) but i recently got a 360 and i do pay for live cuz if you don't ur missing out on games such as gears of war, halo, left 4 dead and im even getting cod on the 360...also forza 3, if these games were on ps3 i woud really care less abt 360 but they aren't its two different options, two different approaches and services and people pick according to their benefits and costs. Also some are lucky to enjoy both.....have fun with whichever you can get your hands on and flippin enjoy what you got rather than spending hours trying to justify each systems purchase and trying to make yourself feel better
