Forums - Sales - GT5/steering wheel bundle...should sony?

Should Sony sell a GT5 bundle that comes with a steering wheel? With the increase in acceptance of hardware bundles like guitar Hero and Wii games, do you think it would be a good marketing strategy for Sony to try and Push a GT5/Steering wheel bundle for about $100, give or take depending on the steering wheel quality?? If Sony could get a steering wheel into people's homes I think they would also have an easier time pushing first party racing games like ModNation Racer and the Motorstorm franchise, as well as possibly steal third party sales from other platforms if a dual console owner has a PS3 steering wheel already. It would also increase the appeal of the future release of the rumored Twisted Metal PS3 game. I'm not saying the complete success of any future title is dependent on whether or not they have a wheel, but I feel that it would help boost sales and really increase the appeal of a car game if someone owns a racing wheel. I could also see "casuals" enjoying a game much more if they have a racing wheel. Just like at the arcades even if someone*cough*women*cough* sucks at driving they still have fun turning the wheel. And if they are split screen racing in ModNation or battling in Twisted Metal it could be really fun with friends.

Note that the "yes" and "no" correspond to your personal answer while the rest is your opinion on the market as a whole. Also when I say help software sales I am referring to increasing sales over what people would have already purchased. i.e. helping penetrate the non traditional car game consumer market or increasing the number of titles a car racing fan purchases.

Any thoughts or comments or arguments would be much appreciated. Is the price too high? Would it be better off bundled with ModNation? Does the steering wheel just appeal to a tiny niche market?

well, let's just say this, without a steering wheel, I wont be buying GT5, reason being because I don't like simulation racers, and only reason I would get it is basically for "Driving Lessons." (Supposedly driving with a wheel is like driving in real life, and the drivers license test is just like the real thing)0

I don´t like steering wheels, but a bundle at a reasonable price would help GT5 sales. Not much, but it would help.

they should definatly do this and i think they will do it...one bundle without wheel and one with wheel...i personally wouldnt buy the wheel because im not a big friend of it but i and Sony know that they are tons of gamers that love it!

I own the Driving Force GT which is the official wheel of GT5 and it's pretty damn awesome. Yes owning a wheel makes you more likely to buy racing games just as owning a Nintendo console makes you more likely to buy Nintendo games. True story.

I think bundling a wheel would do wonders, just look at Mario Kart Wii :P

As long as there are options and choices I don't see problems. Much like the PSP - PSP Go 'dilemma'. Some will go for one, others will go for the other.

Well they throw GT5+logitech G27 bundle :)
Now that would be awesome altrough definitly not in $100 price range.

They wouldn't bundle the G25 or G27, they'd bundle the Driving Force GT as it is the official GT wheel and was made in collaboration with Polyphony Digital.
