I enjoyed Valkyria Chronicles more than Fire Emblem.

I also think Jeanne d'arc deserves a mention!

Jeane D'Arc feels off... I don't know how to put it.  It's like they played nearly every SRPG ever, took most of what worked and threw it in a game with a good story...

yet something still feels off... I can't put my finger on it.  Maybe it's that its too easy... or that it's juggling too many things.  I'm not sure.

I'm not sure either, but I do know I really enjoyed it. It's my top 3 all time handheld games probably.

Ah, my top 3 I think are Pokemon Gold/Silver, Pokemon/Red Blue and Kirby's Pinball.

Kirby's pinball rocks.

Those pokemon games, they're the exact opposite of Jeane D'arc.  Really simple, shouldn't even like it because you can win anything by just knowing the right paper rock scissors combination... yet it's just too addicting and too much fun.

I enjoyed Radiant Dawn more than Valkyria Chronicles.

However, Final Fantasy Tactics is still the best SRPG ever made, imo.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

no love for fft:wotl? i say get that :D best game ever although i prefer the ps1 version but anywho... i gotta try a fire emblem game(which is best to start with)... but man valkyria is a amazing and unique experience definitely get it

War of the Lions is basically just an Ogre Battle game with the Final Fantasy class system over it.  It should be nowhere near a "best SRPG" discussion.

It's just doing almost exactly what the previous seires did with little to no innovation.

Bull imo, lol. It popularized it and improved it, with a different atmosphere and better story.

By your logic, the original Doom shouldn't be mentioned in a FPS debate.

IMO, FFT is a superior game to Ogre Battle in every way, and just because a game is a ripoff in every way doesn't mean it isn't completely fantastic, see Uncharted 2, Dead Space, every RTS game, every MMO, every FPS, and every SRPG ever made.

I mean, SotC is a ripoff of Zelda with no innovation outside of atmosphere and story and gameflow. It is actually missing a lot of the features that made Zelda great, like NPCs and dungeons. However, the way it was assembled makes it a different game. It's atmosphere, artstyle, and gameflow vary from the game it was inspired by and gives it a different feel. You get points for originality, but you also get points for perfecting formulas.

...that said, I hated SotC, and would marginalize it the very same way you marginalzied FFT, so maybe I'm a hypocrite.

Like the original Doom, the music in FFTactics is godlike and should at least be mentioned for that alone.

It's not really a ripoff, I mean it was made by the exact same people.

It just didn't do anything really different or special, and it's story was inferior and less coherent then tactics ogre.

It was also a lot less balanced.  A couple classes ruled FFT and made the game a cakewalk....

and that's not even counting Cid.  My god the brokeness in him.

That was cause of the poor localization, and I hear it was fixed in the PSP release.

I liked the atmosphere and feeling of dread I got when playing FFT. The twist at the end of chapter one is epic, and some of the scenerios in that game are epic. No spoilers though, but there is one battle where you can get save rimrocked and have to start all the way over....freakin' fantastic, lol.

Without internet help or guides, both those games are hard as ass. If you can MAKE it to Cid, you deserve to have an iWin button.

Anyway, lol, I still think Radiant Dawn is right up there with FFT, so I'll go with Fire Emblem the entire series, if pressed. Ike FTW.

About two years ago, tbh.

Yes, and tactics Ogre has poor localization as well.  Your point?

The game being less coherent doesn't have as much to do with the localization though as it does just generally being less coherent.

In general, Tactics Ogre LUCT, just did a better job storytelling in my opinion.  When it comes to actual story, the issues Ogre Battle dealt with just were a lot better.  In general the game seemed rushed.

As for diffulty.  Really the Wiegraf part is the only really hard part... that part is actually criminally hard.  It didn't seem like they really playtested much, if you had the right classes you could kill.

Once you got to dancers... it was practically unfair.

lol, I made Ramza into a chemist and played hit and run with him. That was on my second playthrough. I got stuck on him after 25 hours and had to start over.

Maybe we each feel different because we played the individual games in a different order.
