Why are you insulted if someone thinks a game is meant for kids? Does it make the game less enjoyable to you or something?

I trust me I'm not upset. What I find quite weird, is how people have to respond to valid remarks with comments like "LMAO". They don't even try to argue the point, instead they just laugh at it. This is especially, when the remark they are laughing at is close to the truth. I also dislike the idea of putting video games into a "age group". Especially those that don't target one specific age.

@Fab_GS How else was I suppose to take it? There is only one thing you could have meant by "LMAO" when singling those two games.

You sure sounded upset but I trust you on that one. This time.

Do you think your response was any better than his "LMAO"? It was not.  Some games target younger people than others. That does not mean that they aren't suitable for audiences above their targeted demographics. A game with E rating is meant to be played by gamers aged 6+, T-rated game is meant to be played by gamers aged 13+ and so on.

If someone says that an E-rated game is for kids, he has a valild point. The game has been made suitable for kids and usually targeted for them too.

Thank you!

@sc94597  It was all an innocent "LMAO." My intention wasn't to offend anyone.

Yet, I've been playing M+ games since I was 8. Ratings have very little to do with actual audience. They are just guidelines for what content is present, and how much of it. That gives you an idea whether your kid should play it or not. This doesn't mean that the targeted demographic is that audiences. It also doesn't mean, it is exclusively that demographics. Also, LMAO as a reply isn't only against the rules in this case, but also not a valid response. If he disagreed then I expect him to either tell why, or not post at all. This is a gaming forum, you discuss video games, not disagree with an opinion an not explain why. My response was just playing on his. That may be why it sounded similarly bad, but in reality you can't make much of a better post in response to "LMAO". His response expressed the idea that Mario Galaxy and De Blob are not for Adults.  Which is far from the truth.

Also, I forgot to address this "Does it make the game less enjoyable to you or something?". Fortunetely it does not make the game any more enjoyable. I responded, not because I gain benefit from doing so, but because I don't feel we should just ignore or "tolerate" a non-expressed ideal. This is especially considering this is a 'forum'. This is where you talk about a subject or topic. It is completely irrelevant to how much you like or dislike the hobby or game you are discussing. It is more on distinguishing opinions, and ideas as well as stating facts.

@Fab_GS Of course your intention wasn't to offend anyone, but that isn't the issue here.

I thought that rated 'E' means for EVERYONE and not just for toddlers or kids...GOSH...

I'm 40, so you could say that i'm "mature"...

But my Top 5 "mature games" on Wii will be EXACTLY THE SAME as my "regular" Top 5 games on Wii: Metroid Prime Trilogy, Okami, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4 and Twilight Princess...

I don't understand the difference between "mature" or not, except that some games are too violent for my kids, just as some movies are... but a gore movie may be (intentionally) very immature... and also very good and very funny: Street Trash or Bad Taste, by example...

While some games or movies, made for everyone, children and adults, may be very mature... and they may be very good, or very bad: it doesn't say anything about their quality anyway...

Are the Pixar movies mature or not? Are the Studios Ghibli movies mature or not?

And who cares anyway? Enjoy the best, and forget about the worst...

What you have been doing is your own business. It does not mean anything. It means that the targeted demographic in most cases is the youngest agegroup which the game is recommended. Of course that is not always true. That's what I said, it is not made exclusively to the age group it is targetting. Anyone is free to enjoy the game.

Your response was meant to insult him and just about everyone who happens to like those fps and rpg games. I guess it depends on how you see it. I see it that SMG and de blob aren't made especially for adults -> those games aren't games targeted to mature audience.

I still think you felt a bit insulted with his comment. You resorted to small insults which usually indicates that there is at least a small amount of teh hurt running through your veins. ;)

I like how you look at things like this :)

I agree with 68soul. My list would be similar:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Okami
Endless Ocean
Little King's Story

Wii Sports would also be in there if I had enjoyed it as much as the 5 games above.

Would brawl be considered a 'mature' game? My friends and I are all 20 and we play it all the time. It's a blast.

I didn't insult ANYONE. Even if it was taken as an insult. "LMAO" towards somebodies opinion is more of an insult than anything in my post could ever be. Also just so you know, my favorite genre is Turn Based Role Playing Games. I guess I insulted myself as well. I wan't hurt in the least bit. But now I'm starting to get a little agitated because you are making baseless observations. Neither was my post an insult, nor was it unecessary. My response was meant to extrapolate some type of opinion from a post where there was nothing but attacking somebody elses. How about you stop trying to tell me what my intentions were, when I made them quite clear. Actually I don't know how I can even insult somebody I don't know anything about,  nor did they post any comment instructing an opinion I can insult. My post was general because his was general.  Whatever it may be, this thread is off topic and is derailed. It should just be locked and the OP could try again.

^ The conduit(Horrible), madworld(too short), dead space, world at war(wii version) all sucked imo.

If i'd make a list of games that are "mature"
1. Zelda: the twilight princess
2. Metroid prime 3: corruption

I know these games aren't by any means mature, but I think older people will enjoy these games more then 8 year olds. Luckily I also like to play games that are "childish" like mario, super smash bros, etc

Well your standards are quite high. None of those games "sucked" on average, despite their problems. I found enjoyment out of them and therefore I would never qualify them as "sucking". What I do agree with is the second part of your post after that though.

That's why I added in my opinion after that sentence though :) People can like games that I think suck, I have no problem what so ever with that :P
