Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Week announcement: Netflix to Wii?

Netflix's stock hit a new high today on word from the company that its movie streaming service will soon be available through a device owned by a large number of consumers. The company wouldn't name names, but the Associated Press reports that analysts are speculating it to be the oft-rumoredand Hastings-desired inclusion of the service on the PS3 or Wii.

Netflix stated that its Xbox 360 service helped the company add 2.4 million subscribers since September of 2008. This new deal, according to the company, is predicted to bring in 900,000 to 1.2 million more customers in just the fourth quarter -- it also announced it will begin offering the service overseas next year.

Before getting too excited, Netflix could be offering its service through a cable provider like Comcast or DirecTV -- perhaps the iPhone? We've contacted Netflix for further information and asked when it plans to make its big announcement.

This coincides with the Nintendo Week special announcement that is in bound in a couple of days. So what do you all think? Netflix inbound to American Wii's?

I honestly have no idea. It makes sense from a business perspective for netflix. If it does happen It will be interesting to see how it plays out seeing for consumers as the wii is not HD capable. I know for me that would be a huge turn off.

Long Live SHIO!

Well I would welcome NetFlix on the Wii if it actually comes. Though I still want to see a service where you can actually buy movies online and download the movies to keep. Sure I don't mind renting movies over the web but I want to see an actual digital distribution service in which these movies can be aquired permanently.

If Netflix does come to Wii then Nintendo will have yet another feature that Microsoft has so far owned exclusively. This will be a major plus to Nintendo. Making the Wii not only a game console but now a home entertainment platform far cheaper then its competitors and more efficient to boot!

Wii has 512MB onboard memory and the limit of its SD card expansion slot is 2 gigs. I don't see how this can be for the Wii.

If I remember correctly, the Wii now supports SDHC. That means up to 32gb. More than the base HDD of a 360. You can also switch them in an easy, quick 5 sec. It could work. Even if it doesn't work that way, I could see them doing a streaming service similar to what Nintendo has did in the past.

Netflix on the wii? Malstrom would not be pleased. LOL who cares about him I wonder if there'll be HDD support in the way for movie downloads just in case. Im using USB loader GX and its possible I still dont get it why Nintendo still not doing it.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

True, it has the support with SDHC, now this can be possible.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I wonder if the hardware would be compatible with SDXC with a firmware update, if it does then that's the future of console storage for sure since you can get 2 terabytes outta that thing lol.

i dont think this is the announcement. and i cant wait until this is all over because people are going crazy about this nintendo channnel thing and ign's nintndo game.
