Current gap is about 800K. PS3 (other than the launch spike) has been outselling 360 by an average of ~55K per week. Continuing at that rate means PS3 would overtake 360 in about 14 weeks. I.e. not before the end of the year.

Do you think the sales gap between 360 and PS3 will widen or narrow leading up to the new year? And do you think PS3 pulls ahead of 360 in Others before the end of the year, or further into the new year than the current average gap would predict?

I think in Others PS3 will widen the weekly gap leading up to the new year. But it will need to widen to above 70K (average) to overtake total 360 sales before 1 Jan. I'm not sure it will quite do it, so I think the overtake date will probably be some time in early January.

I'm not too good at keeping tabs on threads, so I won't try to do the list thing like others have. I'm just interested in other people's opinions.

BTW I have a feeling 360 (with its key end of year releases) will go ahead of PS3 in weekly sales in Americas during the holidays, but not by much.

probably. Dont forget sales will change drastically as its the holidays. I would be very surprised of the PS3 doesnt overtake the 360 by the end of the year in others. However just so you know the 360 has already been outselling the PS3 in America (apart from this week) and i expect that to continue throughout the holidays in America.

i say give it 10 weeks if we were going by sales now, but i have never been on VG chartz at xmas so I don't know how differently the sales change

Sales should at least 5 times higher than what they were this week.

While I agree that you are probably right about what the next 2 months holds for PS3 vs 360 in the Amreicas, it's overstating it a tad by saying that 360 is already outselling PS3: since slim/pricecut 360 has outsold PS3 twice in the last 8 weeks, one of those weeks being ODST week. I expect 360 to come second in Americas, and third in Others and Japan. PS3 to come first in Japan (FF XIII), second in Others and third in Americas.

It's gonna happen. When the holiday season officially starts PS3 could put up some monster numbers in Others.
