If Nintendo goes by their five year life cycle and Wii continues to shrink in market share, wouldn't you expect Nintendo's next console in 2011? I personally expect Nintendo to give the Wii one last big push in 2010 with Pikmin,Mario,Link and Donkey Kong, Fox hopefully all making appearances. But after such a powerful line up could Nintendo even keep the Wii going another two years? So if Sony releases the Wand and Microsoft Natal instead of new platforms is it benificial for Nintendo to push into a new generation? |
No, because who cares if Nintendo marketshare shrinks, as long as the Wii is outselling the competition and making Nintendo lots of profit? Right now NATAL and the Wand look like they will be mediocre sellers and not likely to boost PS3 and 360 sales, so Nintendo has no reason to rush their next gen console, they can wait until they've gotten most of the profits and sales from the Wii then launch sometime between 2012 and 2014
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
