Earlier this year could Zenimax announce that they had bought id Software, and thus would be responsible for all future releases from the company after RAGE. Now there are rumors that Zenimax are out with their wallets again.

According to unconfirmed sources from industry people, so is Zenimax looking to invest in Valve and Steam platform, and make them part of their development fold.

The sources do not tell what Zenimax's immediate plans will be the Steam platform, if a purchase would take place. But with the acquisition by id Software in June, so this may well be more than a rumor.

Wow, this could be pretty huge. I wonder what changes this might bring to Valve if it happens. With both id Software, Bethesda and Valve, Zenimax could be quite a huge player in terms of quality games.

God I hope this doesn't happen. Sure, Zenimax does seem to give freedom to Bethesda and id Software, but an independent Valve assures that Valve/Steam won't be tainted.

Besides, do they even have the $5 billions needed to make such a purchase?

Yes. I hope it will happen cos I live Zenimax and Bethesda, and an aquisition of Valve would make them strong.

Zenimax gives total freedom to Bethesda, Splash Damage and id, they're an awesome publisher and investor.

I hope the industry learns that small development shops are better then these mega publishers...

Activision-Blizzard has been a failure as far as I'm concerned. EA bought more studios and it isn't looking good.

ID Software has a lot to do to get back in the game... Rage looks great, but let's face it, its been vaporware for several years now.

Betheseda is the bright spot but publishing Wet lowered their quality standards.

If they do buy Valve I hope there is no change to them. They are one of the few great development shops left.

They just showed the first real trailer for the game at QuakeCon a couple of months ago. It is most definitely not vaporware.

And EA are much better now at allowing freedom for the studios they have bought then they were before. BioWare are doing great for example.

I don't think Valve wants to be bought off. Not even EA would try.

Valve has all the freedom in the world and is doing great why would they want to be bought.

Though Zenimax isn't that big itsself it's nice to have a couple of smaller independent publishers/developers

I sure hope not.
