Forums - Nintendo - Crystal Bearers developer: Selling on Wii will not be easy.

PS3 ports being bad is reprehensible, that's why people should reward Criterion, Visceral and 2K Boston for doing good on both 360 and PS3 with multiplatform releases by buying their games.

Huh? This game looks just as an RPG as...the first FFCC. No levels, but there's upgrades. Then there's world travel which is common with RPGs. The designs are things you'd expect from an RPG. And so on. I still consider it an RPG. And many RPG fans are going to buy it.

The FF/FFCC brand is strong, they don't need to prove anything.

Metroid has upgrades.  Zelda has upgrades.  Niether are RPGs.  This game looks like an action adventure.  That doesn't mean it's bad -- it's just not going to scratch an RPG itch.

@PsychoBrew some points i would like to make.

Wii has more RPGs than Action-Adventures.

Crystal Bearers is an RPG because of it's story values. Gameplay wise Adventure Role Playing games and Action-Adventures are indistinguishable. Even if it wasn't an RPG, it doesn't matter. Games are Games and as long as it is quality I'm up for it.

The Crystal Chronicles series already has an existing fanbase that will buy this game.

This is looking to be my Wii third party game of the year 2009. It is of quality.

The Wii has more good action adventures than good RPGs.  The RPGs on the Wii, to put it nicely, leave much to be desired.

There's much more to an RPG than a story.  Good RPGs don't even need much of a story -- the story should be there, but you should be able to ignore it if you chose to do so (see games like Morrowind and Daggerfall).  You had to make up the stories in the original RPGs anyway, so I'm not sure how you determine a game is an RPG because of its story.

Crystal Bearers is a spin off of their main series.  It might very well be decent, but it's definitely no Final Fantasy XIII.

I guess a Wii developer is trolling the Wii then since he said it will be hard to sell the game on the Wii.

...because the developer is exactly who made this thread and then called everyone opposing the view 'fanboys.'

If it sells a million will you make a thread about it?

Do you make threads that discuss success?

Some games are clearly struggling to sell a million or more, for a variety of reasons. Some games are not struggling, again for a variety of reasons. Final Fantasy XIII would have sold big time on Wii, just as many (if not more) than it will on PS3. We'll eventually see this with Dragon Quest, just like we have with Monster Hunter 3.

Yes.

www.spacemag.org - contribute your stuff... satire, comics, ideas, debate, stupidy stupid etc.

No I called the person who judged a game that is not even out as a fanboy because the developer said it might not sell well which if you think about it instead of coming after me makes sense. So no one should make any thread that has any negative information in regards to the Wii or a Wii game, got i t. I didn't know you decided what kind of threads should be made or not.

I didn't say the game won't sell well the developer of the Wii game did. If Bungie said the next halo might not sell well it would be big news, but because this doesn't fit the vision of Nintendo fanboys that the Wii is the perfect console and that anything that says otherwise is trolling., even from the developer of a game on the system, a major 3rd party release.

Anyone is welcome to make a thread about a game selling well but what is there to debate? You already know what the game sold. On the other hand this game is not out so its sales are still debatable. In case you didn't notice this site has a predictions league to predict game sales on the front page. This is info from the developer about possible sales on the Wii so it's relevant to a site about video game sales.

Its obvious that is hard to sell Wii games at the moment, because there are many quality titles to be releases in the next few month until march.

That has nothing tot do with the fairy tale of "wii-core-games" not selling much.
