I have nothing to add to the thread as I know nothing of FPSs and haven't played more than 2 games on the list.
But I'll say this: Seems like most people agree that although the FPS genre has been around for a good long while, it only seems to be reaching its prime now.
Like if you were to ask any platforming fan, most of them would say the best platforming games ever are the old ones (from when the genre was at the peak of its popularity).
Do you see a pattern?

Counterstrike should be #1. Most Epicest game ever.

Something a lot of people in this thread supporting the notion of Killzone 2 being on the list dont realise is this.

Noone will remember the game a couple of years from now.

Gears, Halo, Modern Warfare, Half Life, Bioshock. These are the sorts of series that put out games that people think back on years later. Killzone 2 is a strong to good FPS. But that's all it is. Besides being graphically pleasing (but not in any extraordinary way over Uncharted 2, Crysis and Gears 2), the game simply doesnt do anything worth thinking back on.

False. Recent FPS games are shittier than one from a few years ago. HL2 is still the best SP and UT2004/CS best MP.

2) 2004 is old? It's 5 years ago! That's like... yesterday!

Makes me wonder why Rare doesn't just make a new FPS IP. I mean that's the most popular genre on the platform, and they're clearly capable of doing so and doing it well, and it would certainly sell more than their past few recent games have, I reckon.

Anyone wh has played shooters for that long can agree on that.

2) It's old when it comes to video games which started more or less 20-25 years. That's amost 20% of its lifetime.

Wolfenstein is way too low on that list. Otherwise a variety and nice list.

COD4 definitely deserves to be in the top 5- there is a reason why it's sold so much.

but i dont understand Half Life 2, i actually find it really boring
