So how much is the E&D Division in the red since the original Xbox came around? Its nice to see they are starting to pick up the pace diggin themselves out of that hole.

I dont remember anymore, but for what it's worth Sony has probably lost more with PS3 than MS has with the entire Xbox project (1 and 360). Or it should be close anyway.

Truly though,  we may never know much of a sales/proft influx Sony gained by winning with Blu-Ray.  Winning with Blu-Ray had an effect on almost every single aspect of their company.  The fact that the PS3 is even remotely close the 360 (With a year release head start) and it's 600$ albatross is actually somewhat impressive.

???...I don't follow this?  PS2 was the dominant console of hte last 2 generations, with over 200 million consoles sold...seems like the year's lead didn't have much impact on the Wii...

The Blu-Ray variable only comes in to play if you assume that without the PS3 Blu-Ray would have lost to the inferior technology.  Then to make this really worth it Blu-Ray needs to win and become the dominat media for a long period of time.  Frankly, I dont believe Blu-Ray will ever dominate like DVDs or VHS did.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Some people need to understand the difference between sold to consumers and sold to stores (shipped)

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

And exactly how would Microsoft know? They do not track sales to customers, they track their sales to retail stores. How are they supposed to know whether some shop sold the 360s they bought? They don't.
Especially around this time of year a shop would order another 5 units because they are expecting higher sales for the holidays. Do you really think MS would say, "that means they sold the other ones we already sent them". No, because it isn't true.

What are you talking about "even if these are shipping numbers, VGC......"? 500k or more of what? The estimates are on the front page saying that VGC expected 3.3M consoles to be shipped, and MS said 3.5. That's 200k not 500k, shipped.

Additionally VGC is not purely estimate on top of estimate. NPD and other sources release their official numbers every month. VGC can use these to tell how close the estimate is. If the numbers don't match up, they may alter them. Keep in mind that at least once, NPD has had different numbers than VGC, and then NPD changed their numbers to match VGC.

You both need to lurk moar, because you obviously have no idea how this works.

This really made the J man lol..... so lets get this straight....MS , a reputable company , has no idea how much of their products have reached the public's hands? Do they just throw 360 in a dark hole with no idea of where they will end up?

Im going to say this in the nicest way possible...your making yourself look like an idiot stop embarassing yourself.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Actually J man, they don't know, their figures are shipped, always have been, no company tracks how much of their product is actually sold to consumers

J-Man, what happens when a store has a fire, and must re-order that stock? I guess those 50 reputable 360 units were sold, right?

how do I respond to that coolbeans?
I seriously do not know...

Are you trying to argue that MS does know how many consoles they've sold, and so the OP is stating sold consoles?

Or are you asking me where the other million units are?
