Forums - Gaming - Will NA and Europe will have the same fate as Japam?

God guys be reasonable, is here anyone with actual economical knowledge? After every depresion there is ALLWAYS period of growth, which is usually n times longer than the time period of depresion. I'm not going to publish an article here just to explain it, but open any economical book and you will find it clear as a day.

Its abit far fetched doesnt mean it will not be impossible. As of now, in 2009 alone the console sales on NPD significantly drops by 50 percent. I think there are core gaming implosion will happen if not a video game crash. Thoughts?

might want to check your sources...

Based on latest NPD so far this year for US we have.

Wii : 35 million units software sold at end of September( same as last year)

Xbox360 : 31 million units of software ( +4 millions compared to last year at same date)

PS3 : 18 million units of software ( +3 millions units)

For hardware :

Wii : down 1.15 million units

Xbox360 : up 260k

PS3 : down 180k units...

HD gaming market so far in 2009 has been about the same than in 2008 in terms of revenue in US( more software but consoles are lower price pt so revenue about the same, average price of software sold is probably down too as the generation gets older you see more discounted titles..).
The only segment that is not performing as well and dragging the numbers down is the Wii...

With a decent holydays both HD console are actually likely to show revenue increase over the year in the US..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

There won't be an implosion or a crash. But there will be many big changes as all these stupid companies go bankrupt with their stupid ideas. I'm hoping it will make room for several new indie developers to bring some fresh new ideas to every console.

My guess is that next time they have to raise price of video games they will fall down not in recession. Its funny what you say about indie development as consoles have quite much killed any fresh ideas and indie development. Its still way too pricey for carage programmer to do anything for consoles. For PC anyone can do just about anything for free.

The global recession is already easing off stock market is going back up, real estate is slowly recovering and consumer sales (and confidence?) is on the rise.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Yeah, yeah... but numbers are numbers. Any person can spin it up its like the recession will be over even in reality its becoming worse. Gaming was dying only in slow motion, and since you sourced NPD I sourced my post in NPD too.

Just goto this link, you will witness the downward slope of gaming right in front of your eyes:

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/NPD_January_2009

January 2009 GOOD SALES all across the platform, and the Wii outsell PS360 combined. but still good numbers. Whether you're a core gamer or not. The beginning of the end though, just look at the top 4-10.

February 2009 again, still good numbers. COD WAW was still on top and even the top 4-10 are in the top 20 now, they still have legs.

March 2009 the end begins... what happened to Killzone 2? wheres the top 10 from january 2009? Atleast Re5 selling well OR IS IT?

April 2009 RE 5 on 360 from 938k from last month now only 122k this month. 'nuff said. And its on top 6 not even on top 20. ITS TOP 6.

May 2009 MY GOODNESS what happened?!! Top 1 was only 679,000 and we knew it will be knocked off in top 10 next month.

June 2009 atleast UFC indisputed was still in top 10 but thats saying much. Top 1 was only 419,00

July 2009 why even bother? Special mentioned with WSR.

August 2009 Madden 2010 debut thats all i can say. WSR still in top 10.

September 2009 atleast Madden was still in top 10. 289,000 TOP 3. TOP 3!

Whether you post that as a joke or not, you could have a point and the centre of PC games will move to Korea.

i highly doubt were gonna see a *game crash* anytime soon. Whatever may be going on in gaming now is nothing compared to what happened in the early 80's

They are a nation on the rise, their total Annual GDP (Normal) is likely to Exceed Japan in this year (only next to USA). While 15 years ago they were something like 9 or 10 in Annual GPD. So its very possible they will take over the gaming industry as well.

There are so many more gamers now then even when I was a kid. Gaming is here to stay the culture is huge and the industry is bigger then movies and music.
