I agree.  Japanese games do have better stories to me.  Japanese people put more heart and soul into they work.  Look at Japanese anime like Naruto, Bleach, DBZ, and others.  They have good story lines and great fighting scenes also.  I hate American cartoons.

Naruto, Bleach, and DBZ are cartoons targeted at young teenagers. The only other people who think that they're deep, soulful works of fiction are Western manchildren.

Well I like anime and some people don't grow out of them just like video games which is also targeted at young teens.  I rather watch anime instead of crapy reality shows like Flavor of Love.

I rather pick up a book and get some actually good stories rather than half-assed simple plots. I'd suggest you find and start reading Chandler and you will see what I mean. Marlowe ftw!

In Japan, the Anime and gaming market are closely tied together.  Many of the same producers, directors, character designers and yes, writers work on both Anime and games.  So if you play Japanese games but claim Anime is only 'for kids', then you are claiming a double standard.

Now I'm not going to claim Anime are 'deep soulful' works.  But at the same time, I'm not the kind of person to listen to Mozart and rattle off why its the best music ever written and its a 'deep soulful work'.  The fact still remains that you can enjoy Anime for what it is, including on multiple levels.  And the fact also remains that many of the creators of Anime are influential or even directly working in the gaming industry.  Such as the creator of Dragon Ball, who has been one of the most influential designers in both the Anime AND gaming industry (Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Tobal, Blue Dragon, etc).

No offence, but first thing that came to my mind was some guy yelling at somebody else that he wants to watch teletubbies and not Alfred J Kwak, because that show is sooo scary and all. Anyway, anime can be something not childish too. I watched anime when I was younger. Actually anime back then wasn't all about pokeballs & stuff, but it actually told some stories and were pretty good at it. However these new childish anime series & stuff vs old anime are like teletubbies vs Alfred J Kwak. Actually some old anime creators have said themselves that spirit that once was in anime is now gone and theres only mindless anime around.

Some of you younger ones might ask wtf is this Alfred J Kwak? It tells a quite sad story about duck called Alfred and it uses darkness of real world to show it etc.

Moar info,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_J._Kwak

"Unlike many other cartoons targeted for children, Alfred J. Kwak features exceptionally mature and often sad themes. Amongst others it deals with different social and political issues, such as abuse of power, but also raises important values such as friendship and solidarity."

I am quite sure you all know what teletubbies are.

This man obviously has never played Xenogears before.

I counter your Alfred J Kwak with my Borthers Grimm and Andersen, not the bastardized version of their works the US has either.

Would you people try naming authors who haven't been dead for hundreds of years

Jesus God, literature is a thriving artistic force today, too

I haven't heard of any modern authors writing "realistic" stories for kids that include murder, dismemberment, mutilation, child stealing, child death, or anything other then flowers and happy and general unrealistic joyful bullshit. LOOK AT THE ENDING OF DISNEY"S LITTLE MERMAID! HOW COULD THEY?!

Bleach and Dragon Ball Z does not have great storylines. They are pretty much plotless. The Naruto manga on the other hand does have a really awesome story. I'll agree with you on that.

There's more to Anime besides 'Bleach, Naruto and DBZ'.  Hell, there's more to Dragon Ball than just 'DBZ'.  And no, I don't just mean 'GT'.

I will interject a title that trumps almost every other story out there - Eternal Darkness. This game had one of the best stories I've ever experienced, and did it in a style that had a nice flow and made sense.
