Naruto, Bleach, and DBZ are cartoons targeted at young teenagers. The only other people who think that they're deep, soulful works of fiction are Western manchildren. |
In Japan, the Anime and gaming market are closely tied together. Many of the same producers, directors, character designers and yes, writers work on both Anime and games. So if you play Japanese games but claim Anime is only 'for kids', then you are claiming a double standard.
Now I'm not going to claim Anime are 'deep soulful' works. But at the same time, I'm not the kind of person to listen to Mozart and rattle off why its the best music ever written and its a 'deep soulful work'. The fact still remains that you can enjoy Anime for what it is, including on multiple levels. And the fact also remains that many of the creators of Anime are influential or even directly working in the gaming industry. Such as the creator of Dragon Ball, who has been one of the most influential designers in both the Anime AND gaming industry (Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Tobal, Blue Dragon, etc).
