352k consoles more than last September08 which was right after the price cut.
In this Gamasutra NPD analyis, there's more good news for 360.http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/4172/npd_behind_the_numbers_september_.php
Average selling price of 360 according to NPD data=$260 in August 08, $261 in September 08. This means just as I've been saying MS price cut wasn't one at all. Microsoft makes the same per Xbox sold as before the "cut". Also according to Gamasutra if you disregard pro sales in September, 3/4 of 360's sold were Elites, 1/4 Arcades. This is also good for MS bottom line. It also means 360 is inching closer and closer, now almost the same price as PS3 (PS3 average selling price September=$300) but still competing. Soon PS3 and 360 could cost the same (they already do in essence, for the 120GB model), yet Xbox 360 is not being crushed as one might expect since PS3 has free wi-fi, free online, and free Blu Ray.
1.52 million Halo ODST which was a dominant number. 5 of the top 10 software titles. Xbox 360 garnered 32% of all revenue to lead the industry according to NPD.
Across all categories, the Xbox 360 platform contributed the most to industry unit and dollar sales as sales of 360 hardware, software and accessories comprised 32% of the month's revenues.
Xbox 360 the only console with up YTD hardware sales
Xbox 360 strong in total software sales, creeping up on Wii which is flat. Despite far more Wii hardware sold at this point.
LTD software: 360 above all others
360 vs PS3 month to month, 360 holding strong
Tie ratio: 360 strong
According to exclusive data provided to Gamasutra by the NPD Group, Microsoft's Xbox 360 has improved its tie ratio to 8.8 titles per system as of September 2009, up from 8.6 titles per system three months ago. The Nintendo Wii's tie ratio also increased in that period, from 6.4 to 6.5 titles per system.
Only the PlayStation 3 held its tie ratio essentially constant in the last quarter. According to NPD Group data 6.8 titles have been sold for each system. The tie ratio for the PS3 may remain constant, or even decline, as its hardware sales pick up and a commensurate jump in software sales lags a month or more behind.
More interesting news, USA market strong
We spoke with our colleague, Mr. Jesse Divnich of EEDAR, about how we might estimate the number of World at War DLC purchases in the U.S. According to Mr. Divnich, “59% of Call of Duty: World at War retail sales occurred in the United States.”
59% WaW sales USA..add in UK and perhaps 75%-80% of a Western themed shooter sales are in strong Xbox markets. This shows how PS3's dominance in Japan doesn't matter to western publishers. PS3's sold in Japan might as well not exist to EA or Ubisoft. They only help a limited subset of Japanese publishers (Capcom, etc) whos games sell to both Japan and the West. To the big dominant western publishers, they dont matter. So you can erase 3-4 million consoles (and growing) from what PS3 has sold worldwide from EA's or other western publishers viewpoint.
All in all just pointing out some strengths for 360.
