The first game I decided to play after getting the HDMI cable on the PS3 was Killzone 2, because I'm going to play Uncharted 1 before 2 and I've played the first one before so I wanted something new.
My impressions of the game so far are pretty positive with a few small complaints. I started the game on veteran difficulty.
This game is intense, so far there's barely been any break in the combat and since you're invading you constantly feel surrounded by enemies. I don't think any other shooter is this intense other than CoD 4 maybe and that was because it had infinite spawning enemies which this game definitely does not. I like this pace better than Gears (1) or Halo 3 where there's more breaks in the action.
The other thing I do like in Killzone which I also liked a lot in the first Gears game are set pieces (something CoD 4 is really lacking).
The controls took a while to get used to and aren't ideal, but I've gotten used to it. The first person cover works pretty well and I can't think of a way it could be improved. The different controls and first person cover took a while to adapt to, but I like the way the shooting works in this game it packs a punch (Exccept on the tank where it felt like I was using a watergun instead of a machine gun).
Killzone 2 actually looks better than I expected and I expected a lot too. Even though its environments are very dirty and dark I accept this kind of color palette in a warzone.
Enemy A.I. is nothing special (unlike Halo 3 which has great enemy AI), but a single enemy can kill you in 5 seconds if you mess up.
I've died several times so far, but it didn't feel like the game killed me in cheap ways. I always knew it was my fault for dying and not some bad design. Some of the cover spots aren't perfect, but I guess that is more realistic than feeling completely safe behind cover like in Gears.
The default controls are weird and the aim button being the stick is also uncomfortable but after changing the aim button I realized I had to map it to the stick in cover anyway so I switched back to default controls.
Even thoug there's the constant cover element like in Gears, it doesn't feel like I have to always be in cover in this game like in that one. The story isn't much and the characters are throw aways but I wasn't really expecting those anyway
Haven't tried the multiplayer so I can't comment on that, but the singe player is really fun and I'm having a good time with it.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!
