Forums - PC - Windows 7...what will it mean for gamers?

After the launch of Vista, I think just about anything is better than the launch of Vista, but is the launch of 7, going to really benefit gaming?  I didn't participate in the beta for Windows 7, but by all reports, it is leaps and bound above Vista, so I'm probably going to switch as soon as possible, but I'm wondering how much pain will be associated with incompatible drivers?

Based on these articles, it doesn't look like there's much benefit for gaming...other than the headaches Vista provided...Doy you want to do this?  No...seriously...do you REALLY want to do this?  Are you sure you want to do this?

Windows 7 wouldn't actually make PC gaming any worse though, all the problems of PC gaming were created long ago.

nothing at all

In some tests, games actually perform WORSE on Windows 7 than Vista. In others, they're either flat or slightly better. So...7 won't do anything good for PC gaming. It'll just stay the way it is as a best case scenario.

it wont do anything for gaming but as for actual computing it is alot better and much more producting. Im SUPER excited to get my copy tomorrow.

Long Live SHIO!

Probably not much in the short term. As drivers and such improve the performance in games can improve since right now I've read that game performance on Windows 7 is similar to the current Vista (a little better or a little worse depending on the game).

There probably wont be any huge things happening unless tons of people start switching over to Windows 7 or Vista and getting newer hardware that would make use of the new graphical features.

With the way PC gaming is going with crap like Modern Warfare 2 and Microsoft's attitude with Games For Windows Live, who knows. Can the good developers keep it going?

There are only 2 or 3 GPU's on the market that can use DX11.

And they all came out in the last month.

EDIT: How much better is Windows 7 compared to Vista? Is it worth getting tomorrow or something that isn't a big deal and can wait?

Not to mention DX11 demos such as the AVP one shown are really underwhelming.
