Updated: Follow up article has been posted, so polls have been taken down.

This is the second entry in reader appreciation week, where you all pick the games we will be looking at. And for the Sales Battle of the Day you picked Killzone 2 vs. Left 4 Dead.

Description: Killzone 2 and Left 4 Dead were both highly anticpated shooting games on their respective platforms. Online play is also a key component of both games' appeal.  Sales wise both games have been on the market less than a year, with Left 4 Dead having a 10+ week head start. Currently Left 4 Dead has a ~450k lead, but Killzone is outselling Left 4 Dead on a weekly basis.  So which game will end up with the higher total sales, when both are done selling? Vot in the poll then let us know what you think.

Note: We are only considering Left 4 Dead's sales on the 360.

As mentioned at the start of this post, this is part of a week long reader appreciation where you all pick the games we look at.  The next series is Retro Sales Game of the Day, and here is a poll for the games nominated so far. If you want to add a nomination, I will still add it to the poll, but the sooner you get it in the better, so that the other games don't have too big of an advantage. You can also nominate games for Look at Those Legs game in  this thread.

Why do people think KZ2 will have more sales? Because its on PS3?

Thats like expecting a JRPG on 360 to outsell a JRPG on PS3... in Japan!

Because L4D2 will be released next month and it will kill L4D sales.

At least use Killzone 2's boxart.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Since I was the one who made this nomination, I feel like I also have to write something about it ^^

The reason I picked these two games was, that I find quite many arguments both for and against each one...

Killzone 2:
+ outselling L4D on a weekly basis
+ good critics, very hyped up title

+/- the release of the slim PS3 gave it a boost recently, but that could be shortlived -> weekly sales could drop quite a lot in the coming weeks

- the PS3 users aren't as crazy about fps
- smaller userbase, especially in the US (= usually home of most fps sales)

Left 4 Dead:

+ quite a big head start
+ fps sell better on the 360
+ bigger userbase, especially in the US

- being outsold on a weekly basis
- Left 4 Dead 2 is going to be released soon, so that could break its legs

All in all, I doubt that Killzone 2 will outsell Left 4 Dead. I expect weekly sales to go down as were moving further away from the slim release, also there will be much competition with Modern Warfare 2 to be released soon. Killzone 2 will still outsell Left 4 Dead (weekly), especially when Left 4 Dead 2 is released, but it won't have long enough legs to catch the 450k headstart. Maybe a tie.

I am afraid that Killzone 2 will loose :-/

SmokedHostage, thanks I did not realize the box I had was for the first Killzone. Nice post Vagabund.

I think KZ2 will win, but will take many many months. MW2 will seriously injure KZ2 and L4D2 will murder L4D. It will be like 2.8m verse 2.6m at the end of 2010 or so.

With L4D2 releasing soon, L4D will pretty much stop selling. I think Killzone 2 will overtake it in ~30 weeks.

KZ2 because its sequel isin't out next month
