Impulsivity said: Its not just possible its almost guaranteed. Remember the orig splinter cell was supposed to be Xbox only too until it wasn't.
Every good 360 game except gears and Halo has made the trip over to the PC and usually Sony's way too, usually in an enhanced edition. Its virtually guaranteed. Thats why I don't get the point of the 360, I mean you need a PS3 for great games like Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank ect (3 9.0 games in just the last 2 weeks) but you don't need a 360 for any of the good games really, since they all either hit the PC or PS3 or both.
I'll get Splinter Cell next year for the PS3 with added levels and a new difficulty level IE Bioshock. |
I agree that it's pretty much guaranteed the Splinter Cell game is getting ported. And the 360 version will no doubt sell a lot more. That's how things go with late ports. Just like how GTA sold a lot more on PS2 than on the Xbox (where it had extras). The roles are just reversed this generation. Gamers with 360s aren't going to wait just like GTA fans with a PS2 didn't wait.
As for the point of the 360, it's quite easy to explain why people still buy the console.
1. The 360 has almost double the install base in North America. Meaning, for most North Americans, their friends are more likely to own a 360 than a PS3. This makes the 360 a natural choice for a lot of people that want to play online with their friends. And the 360 has really pushed the online console gaming experience this generation. It took what Dreamcast started and ran with the idea.
2. Even if there is a lot of overlap with the PC, games like Left 4 Dead, Gears of War, Mass Effect, etc. sold a ton on the 360. Console gaming is a bigger business than PC gaming. Not everyone has a gaming rig and even in the case where they can play the PC version of the game, many people at the end of the day just prefer console gaming to PC gaming. Since there are plenty of 360/PC games that aren't on the PS3 (74 or something by wikipedia's count), the 360 is an attractive alternative to a gaming rig for someone who prefers the console gaming experience (or doesn't want to invest in a rig).
3. The 360's first-party lineup doesn't have the quantity that the PS3's first-party lineup but it definitely has quality. Halo, Gears, Forza, Fable, Crackdown, Perfect Dark. Microsoft Game Studios even publishes jrpgs and krpgs for crying out loud. Halo and Gears in particular attract a killing in sales and online play.
4. The 360 also has the multi-plat covered. So Joe Gamer doesn't have to worry about missing out on his GTA (and he gets exclusive episodes too), his EA Sports, his 2K Sports, his Call of Duty, etc while enjoying the benefits of 1-3 (bigger install base, good alternative to PC gaming for those who prefer the console gaming experience and great Microsoft games). And he gets achievements for all those multi-plats (some people will buy almost all their multi-plats for their 360 for the achievements).
