Forums - General - Dudes with Avatars and Chicks with Dude Avatars

So a lot of people end up getting Avatars of the opposite sex.

Is there anything to be read into about that?

Is it about being able to create an alter ego for yourself so people can (or can't) see who you REALLY ARE (or who you REALLY WANT TO BE). Something deep and psychological or whatever?

Or is it about something WAY simpler, like: "well I'm going to be playing WoW for like hundreds and hundreds of hours and I'd rather spend that time staring at a hot chick on the screen as opposed to a dude"

I know some girls choose to have an avatar of a dude, or have a gender neutral screen name so that they don't get harassed or like unordinate amounts of attention by all the guys on the internet.

Maybe even some guys INTENTIONALLY get a hot chick avatar so they can get unordinate amounts of attention, iono.

iono what's your take

i have a chick, all eyes on me.

All I know is I automatically assume everyone is male, unless they have a photograph of a woman in their avatar.

Believe it or not, my current avatar features a guy.

My past two avatars were of anime characters that I thought were hot or cute as hell.

I assume that everyone is male on the Internet unless the opposite is suggested, with MORE than avatar pictures.

Having said that, I imagine people looking like their avatars. So, for example, I imagine RolStoppable looking like Kim Possible but being male. Is that weird?

With what then?  Real pictures?  I don't really see the point.  I mean, great you can prove you're not a guy by posting your picture (knowing that hundreds of nerds will probably oggle it) and for what... girl credit?

I think it's just better to assume everyone on an internet forum is a guy.

Always assume it's a guy unless they say otherwise.

Having a female avvy works quite well in MMOs, though. You can reap some serious material reward just by flirting a little (just a little, nothing too overt), if you're not too homophobic

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Jup, it's a guy untill proven female.

I chose two girls not so much to be someone else (my pics are all over this site already) but mostly because Lesbians are hot and it's nice to look at.

... so is it weird if I see you as some weird alien?

@Esmoreit- I dunno... lipstick lesbians are rare IMHO... the ones I usually encounter are angsty teen girls that look funny, or some feminist lady in a city.
