Forums - Sony - Has Sony really failed to capitalize on PS3 Slim launch?

What about the fact that Sony is trying to bring in new users with the slim. They have 3 years worth of great exclusives that they can now get at a cheaper price. I'm sure we'll see software sales of LBP, Uncharted, Resistance 1 & 2, Infamous, Killzone and other pick up a bit over the holidays. The cost of most of those games has probably been covered by sales to this point. From now most or all the money made on these games should be profit. Which is a very good thing for Sony.

yeah don't forget

these ARE the holidays

but what about the quiet months next year?

guess what SONY have that sorted with GT5 & FF13!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

They are going to sell through their units produced, or nearly so, anyway, so no need for more games to drive more sales this holiday.  And they are going to basically sell out even though they started producing slim components a few months back at double the rate of last year's Q4 PS3 sales....

This is already the case for most of the games you mentioned. Killzone2 dropped of the charts now it's back in the top 50 doing 25,000+ last week.

Heavy hitters like Modern Warfare2 and FIFA can hurt an exclusive.

I think they did it right.

but i think an exclusive with MW2 n FIFA it could have given more reason for a person to buy PS3.. now both XBOX n PS3 has identical games n why one should choose PS3 over XBOX when XBOX is still $100 cheaper for the basic model..

Quiet months r quiet.. u cant do much abt them... remember even GTAIV n MGS4 were able to give around 200 - 300k boast.. but in holidays even 20 - 30% boast can shift an extra half a million to a million unit... Look MS always release Halo around the start of Holidays in late September.. so they get a continuous boast for the entire holidays... they can promote it over the holidays as their exclusive..

So you're saying the only exclusives released this fall are Uncharted 2 and Rachet & Clank ?

How about Demon's Souls and the God of War Collection, they're being talked about quite a bit, and then there's like, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, I'd be suprised if it moves ANY consoles since they seem to sell so bad, but hey, it convinced my mate to buy a PS3 Slim... and then how about Wipeout HD Fury on Bluray, my mate didn't believe me it was being released on bluray since he's a Wipeout fanatic, and never had a PS3, and he hates downloading games, and he's buying one this weekend with his paycheck, lol o.O
Then there's also EyePet, it's definitely got the marketing since I see it on every bloody channel I watch, and I'm sure it'll attract people to play it, not sure who, but people will, lol.

And then as other people have said, the older exclusives are cheap now, they just need more advertising on the bigger ones, like LittleBigPlanet for a start, Sackboy is like the mascot of PS3, and I think he deserves alot more attention than he's had...

So if you ask me, the PS3 is doing fine in terms of sales, and the big hitters next year will see them rocket again !

They timed it so they could line up the numbers with 360's price drop numbers from last year.

No bud they don't have identical games, PS3 exclusives look quite better.

Also - $50 for one year of live, - $150 for a hdd.  Ohh look PS3 is $100 cheaper so theres more then one way to look at things try to do that.  And PS3 does not have that pesky +30% defective rate reputation for any one to consider when buying.  So why would any one choose the 360 over the PS3.

And they can't stack slim launch with all their exclusives, what would differentiate them from the 360 4 6 8 months down the line.  They also must give the 3rd partys room to breathe, GT5 would have cost many people many sales if it were to come out during the holidays.  The franchise also does not need a holiday rush to be a sales success whie many 3rd partys depand on it.

sorry i forgot Demon Soul but its not a main stream hit.. it is more of surprise hit...

Just think if Sony had Heavy Rain for September

Uncharted 2 plus R&C for October

God of War 3 for November

GT5 in December in EU & FFXIII in Japan in December.. than that could have been an awesome Holidays with the price cut n Slim.. we would have seen some huge numbers then.
