Here you go check this link http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics.html

currently 37% of all driving fatalities are caused directly from drink driving. from 1982 to 2003 that figure went from 60% to 40%, which hopefully shows that drivers are becoming more responsible for their actions.

I believe being drunk increases the risk of being in an accident, but I am just concerned that people use it as a scapegoat, and make statements like 'everyone who drives drunk is an idiot.' I think there are circumstances where people who drive over the limit are not a danger, and should be let go.

Were those deaths caused specifically because they were drunk? Do you think that it is possible that those deaths could have occured because of some other underlying factor?

I wouldn't go as far to say only stupid people drink and drive. That is a pretty ignorant statement if you ask me.

I'm sorry, what the f*ck are smoking and can I have some?

How is it ignorant? The figure was for deaths caused by drink driving, y'know driving whilst drunk. Have you ever tried driving drunk? It's a good way to kill yourself because you have severely reduced reaction times and less control over your actions.

I'm so glad that none of my friends drive drunk, unfortunately the reason is because we lost three friends in a drink driving incident (Driver driving on the wrong side of the road at 80Mph) that made us realise just how fatal drink driving can be.

Uhh.. So let me get this straight.

Driver was driving on wrong side of road at 80mph

Driver was drunk

Conclusion: Driving drunk makes you drive on wrong side of road at 80 mph.

Do you think it's possible that this person was just a fucking retard who shouldn't be trusted to drive in the first place?

*Claps hands*

Well done, that's exactly what I'm saying. The driver was drunk and he drove the wrong side of the road full blast because his drunken state made him think it was a good idea. Like you think a lot of stupid ideas are good when you are drunk.

Have you ever been drunk before?

I understand this. I am asking though because if you have ever been drunk, you would know that being drunk doesn't instantly make you go out and do this insane shit he is describing. In my drunkest state, I have never ever thought stabbing somebody, jumping off of a building, driving down the wrong side of the road at 80mph etc. was a good idea. And neither has anybody I have ever known.

Now that I can actually agree with. However, the dude broke the law, perhaps an overly strict law, but a law non the less, and THAT is why I have no pity for him, don't like the law, try fighting MADD.

It's possible, but it seems more likely that it was an accident, they probably didn't intend to be on the wrong side.

Um I think this thread went on a tangent a bit. I'm not proud of my DUI, and I don't think anyone else who gets one is either. Yes I chose to drive drunk, but an old former friend is directly responsible for getting me pulled over because he purposefully hit my steering wheel causing me to cross over the double yellow line. This was at 3 am keep in mind though so there were no other cars on the road and I blew a .08 when he breathalyzed me. Yes I was legally drunk but I wasn't so incapacitated that I didn't know what I was doing like most people make drunk drivers out to sound.

^exactly

look, I feel for you, I think the law is crappy, but it is the law, and after you broke it, you broke another law. Just wait it out a month, and appreciate what your parents are doing for you. Driving without a license is a serious offense, and doing it twice, could lead to some pretty hefty consequences. You parents are saving you from yourself.

Every drunk driver thinks they know what they're doing... until someone dies.
