Forums - Nintendo - Spyborgs Price Halved -- Now Just $20 USD

Spyborgs has been dropped to $19.99 USD by many US retailers (Wal-Mart, Gamestop, Amazon).

Out for less than a month (US release date Sept. 22, 2009), the action game was originally priced at $39.99 USD.

I wonder what Capcom will say about this and what it means for selling games on the Wii.  Personally, I think the switch from a tounge-in-cheek apporach to standard dark serious fare hurt the initial appeal of this game and the mediore reviews (65% on Gamerankings with 17 reviews ranging from 50 to 80) show there is nothing special about the game.

(And yes, I have been and continue to be critical of review scores. But in this case, the somewhat high number for a Wii game and the lack of any outliers demonstrates that this is probably an OK, average game.)

I was checking for cheap games on newegg yesterday and stumbled across this. Double checked on amazon and it was the same price. Was pretty surprised to say the least, but from the mediocre reviews not entirely surprised. Too bad, the game looked like it could have been something great.

You're very correct in that, Mike. What the game looked like initially could have been great fun, a throwback to the awe-inspiring-yet-cheesy nature of Saturday Morning action cartoons of the 80's and 90's, but then they switched it up to something utterly unremarkable

The sad part is, they did so based on the tremendous negative reaction that their original idea got...

Yea. I had planned to buy this under its first incarnation -- but now under its second, I won't even drop $20 on it.

What it looks like here is that Capcom has a "camel" on its hands. In other words, a horse designed by committee.  Basically, it sounds like Capcom listed to the wrong people -- gamers who weren't going to buy this title because they play these type of games on other consoles -- instead of seeking the input from interested Wii gamers.

If the price drops in Sweden as well, then I might give it a shot. Well, maybe, Madworld has dropped to about $15 and I haven't bought that one yet so...it's a big maybe.
There's so many other more interesting titles, such as Tales of Symphonia 2 in a couple of weeks for $40 including a Plush Doll as preorder bonus!

I feel sorry for the developer. It's clear that they had some creative and ambitious ideas, and at some point in the project those ideas were pruned right off the tree.

One reviewer said it best. It's a great licensed game without the benefit of an actual license IP.

Hell for $20 I may pick it up. I just downloaded Final Fight 2 because felt a need for a beat em up.

I picked it up for $30 Australian and for a new game thats a steal.

Its a pretty good game, not outstanding but still alot of fun. Naturally its best played in the co-op mode but its a scrolling fighter so that pretty much what you'd expect.

I think its worth $20US for sure, so long as you have a buddy to play with.

Having bought the game at $40 I can say it was overpriced. At $20 it is a decent deal though. The graphics especially are really quite nice.
