Well yeah sure if you look at it like that no game would have any intensity or emotional impact, because if you view all game characters as purely fictional constructs then there isn't anything to humanise and feel emotion for. But seriously, do you really do that? Because that goes against human nature, most people form bonds with lots of non-human objects, like pets, cars, boats, tools, even controllers (a bit strange that one, but someone was mentioning it earlier in a different thread). The scene is intense because you emphasise with Madisons' situation, because you use a thing called imagination and perceived her character as real. I guess you don't read many fictional books either?

Well at least someone did a good job at explaining it. I guess I could see how it might be intense for some people (I don't think it would seem like an intense experience to me though)

Thanks for trying. This has nothing to do with the thread. He didn't ention Halo at all. And I was thinking the same as him until czecherychestnut explained |
shooting aliens is the most over done game setting in history. It's done more than world war II, nice for trying.
And Halo is intense, very intense. So will this game.

I never said shooting aliens was intense.
If Heavy Rain gets banned because of that scene then........I think I'll have to rewrite some of my game concepts...
But, banning the game because of that scene would just be stupid, I think. Sure, I need to see what actually happens if you fail. Lets say she is half-naked and while she has her back against him he draws his gun and shots her in the neck. Or he calls the guards in, they capture her and send her to the boys to do....that.....with her. It would be enough "knowing" what happened to her, and to make it even more disturbing they execute her when they are "done".
Yeah, scenes such as these have been done numerous times in movies and books, but it would feel very uncomfortable for the player knwing that your mistake led to it.
