everyone knows that this is just Activisions plan to make more money. No need to supply dedicated servers, no need to pay for them.
No mods? Force sales of DLC in order to broaden the experience.

Just pirate the game. This game is not worth it's money. When, and it will, it is cracked just get that and tell Activision to go fuck themselves.

Obviously PC Gamers are very much in the minority not just in the new MW2 but also on the VGC website. This is huge news, I am suprised by how little response it has received.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.It has tremendous response on all PC sites, online petitions are popping everywhere, and the IW forums are on fire, forcing them to close several topics and comments.
Unlike a console it is the community who provide the bulk of the dedicated servers. What is getting people to animated is that they will be removing the dedicated server functionality that they would normally come to expect. Also what is not helping is this news which was totally unexpected has trickled down so late in the day.
I recently pre ordered this game and found myself questioning whether I should cancel the pre order. In all my years of PC gaming this is just about the biggest thing that I can recall. I still think it must be an error and maybe he was referring to consoles.

Just saw this, don't like it, and play on PC (as well as consoles).
I'm not feeling to charitable towards consoles for online, particularly 360 with its pay for access model, as I see that as a driving force - and the fact many gamers, particularly in the lucrative US/UK markets, hve switched from PC to console for online FPS - for this move.
Now, I don't oppose change, but I don't like the loss of capabilities. If MW2 on consoles could have a mod scene, level editors, etc. I wouldn't mind - but it seems we're losing a lot of good stuff as a result of this sea change from PC to console. I can't help feel that, particularly with Live model, we're allowing free, open control to be replaced with a tightly controlled environment we actually pay for as well.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Next up: monthly subscription fees for the online. Who wants to bet this'll be the next announcement?
The PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will not feature dedicated servers, according to statements made by developer Infinity Ward.
Instead the game will use a new proprietary matchmaking service called IWNet - a decision that has already caused outrage amongst fans. The announcement was made by Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling on the BASH podcast, as reported by GI.biz sister site Eurogamer.net.
"We've been building up this system on the backend called IWNet to allow matchmaking for our PC users as well, just like you have on the console that's built in on Xbox Live and PSN, but PC never had it, so we're building in our own, you know, matchmaking so you can get in there and play with players your same rank," said Bowling.
"You're completely reliant on IWNet, and there's no dedicated server or server list, so you rely on IWNet for your matchmaking on your games, but then you also have the private match, much like the other platforms, where you can go in and customise and, you know, turn off air support, turn off this, turn off that, customise the game rules all via private match, and invite people to the server that way," he added.
Even on the podcast the reaction to the news was negative, with Bowling remaining non-committal about support for custom content and fan-made modifications - while vaguely hinting at plans for patches to add additional features.
Although recent sales have been heavily skewed towards the Xbox 360 and PS3, the Call of Duty franchise began as a PC exclusive and still has a significant fanbase on the platform. Inevitably a petition with almost 50,000 signatures has already been established, to try and reverse the decision on dedicated servers.
