Forums - Gaming - Mistwalker in FINISHING stage for their NEW GAME (What Console?!!)

Yeah I know. Just didn't know MS owned the Blue Dragon name.

Blue Dragon XBox 360 was pretty under rated imho.

eh it still had people camping for 360's in Japan and buying arcade bundles with Blue Dragon.

It's also reached a half million units in sales. Not mind blowing no, but decent enough.

Though I am suprised they didn't keep the Lost Odyssey engine and run with that for a second part because Lost Odyssey easily sold better overall and was a much better game imho.

@Montana - I guess we disagree on this one, it's a matter of taste I suppose.

But if the game had the name "Final Fantasy" it would be above 85 on metacritic right now.

Please stop this. Final Fantasy does not give extra points. I figured people would have shut up about that by time being that Persona 3 and 4 were rated just as highly.

I AM SICK OF IT too!

Persona 4 is proof that such mentality is wrong!

Seriously every Final Fantasy game has a polish other JRPG's can only have a wet dream about

& each one tries to push the formula in some way or another!!

Even FF12 which is "hated" by fans was adored by critics

@Luney Tune

FF12 was made by the FF Tactics team..

lets see how the traditions FF team do with FF13

so far its looking so positive!

You guys fail to see my argument. Just because another JRPG franchise also manages to get great reviews does not mean that the words "Final Fantasy" don't bring in good reviews. It just means that Persona 3 & 4 are also really good games. But there are just as many amazing JRPG's taht come nowhere close to that in ratings. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say any Final Fantasy game is over-rated. FFXII, as well as X-2 (just to name the two most hated ones), are both amazing games IMO. If anything, FFXII deserves to be rated higher as it is easily the greatest RPG from last generation.

What I'm trying to say that almost EVERY other JRPG is underrated. If Lost Odyssey was a Final Fantasy game, there is a good chance it would be AAA on metacritic right now. It's as simple as that. Critics would not bitch about every small issue they have with the game.

Lost Odyssey is a unfinished product that lacked any original gameplay. I can admit that and I still think it's my 2nd favorite game this generation. How can reviewers reward an unpolished and completely uncreative design? The story was fantastic in my opinion and it was tons of fun, but judging fun is not part of a review.

Was your first sentence a joke? It kind of discredits your point completely. Just look at some of the user reviews on any site, and you'll find that many of them just aren't good. You obviously have no idea why pro reviewers have their jobs. They wouldn't make a living reviewing games if they were non-gamers, and they often times sign up to take certain games. It's not like they're constantly forced to review games against their will. And the temptation of giving high budget games big scores is still a far lesser evil than the bias of an anonymous person on the internet. I distinctly remember a review for Final Fantasy 12 on Gamefaqs which gave the a 3/10, and was taken down later when it was revealed that there was something false in the review, and the reviewer in question hadn't actually played the game.

Yes it was a joke. I don't believe that description fits the average GameFAQs reviewer, but you obviously do. I think the average GameFAQs reviewer is an informed hardcore gamer that understands and respect the genre in question, and wants to provide others with an honest opinion. I think the trolls and idiots are a minority. Trolls usually don't care enough to write long detailed reviews. If you compare GameFAQs average scores with Metacritic scores, then you'll notice an interesting pattern: Games surrounded by a lot of hype consistently get higher scores on Metacritic. Games with little to no hype get higher scores on GameFAQs. I personally find that I agree far more often with GameFAQs than Metacritic.

Anyway this debate isn't going anywhere. You're saying that pro reviewers represent some kind of objective way of measuring game quality. I say that's BS, and I'd rather take may chances with GameFAQ's. I don't think we'll agree.

I do as well. I can write a GameFAQS review by just watching a few videos and reading forums. It's quite easy to BS a review in that horrid system. Have you actually read any of these reviews? What you agree with is really irrelevant because it's likely you share the similar opinions of the same niche. What you like or what the reviewers like in a game should hold no baring on the score.

Mistwalker was originally going to release 3 Xbox 360 exclusive games since Microsoft funded the company heavily when it was started. Cry On was suppose to be the last title to to hit Xbox 360 but was cancelled so they still owe Microsoft another exclusive title as of now.

Actually Lost Odyssey did pretty well worldwide. It didn't sell to the extent of the Final Fantasy titles but when comparing to other jrpgs on either PS3 or 360, it did much better.

Its still smarter for developers to release it on multi-platforms in the end, however.

What's your basis in saying Reviewers don't automatically upgrade Final Fantasy reviews?  They have done it for other games, from Grand Theft Auto to Nintendo titles, while downscoring other games which have just as good (or better) merits to the same games but don't have the popularity or marketing as those series.

And reviewers aren't a good measure of what makes a good game in the first place.  Regardless, not all reviewers upscore every FF game anyway.  Back when FFXII came out, nearly every game review site was giving the game a near perfect or perfect score.  But it was pretty evident from comparing their reviews to actual experience of playing the game that the reviewers judged the game mostly based on preconceptions and very limited gameplay experience.  Yet GameTrailers, another review site, put up their own review of the game, which was significantly lower than the majority of the others (8.0), and backed their review up with solid examples of where the game lacked in both gameplay and design.

On the flip side, they posted a review for a less popular and more 'niche' RPG outside of Japan, Dragon Quest VIII, actually scoring it higher than FFXII (9.0).  Once again providing solid examples of the games strengths and reasons why it deserved its score.  While most other sites were downscoring it (between 8.0 and 8.5) for simply not having the name recognition or marketing potential of a series like Final Fantasy.

You guys can keep bringing up examples like Persona and Disgaea all you want, but in the end, those series still had a solid hype and marketing put behind them.  Review sites pick up on these things and fluctuate their scores up or down a few points accordingly to appease their readers.  This has been shown time and time again, or did we not learn anything from the GTAIV and Kane & Lynch fiascos?

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I wonder what it is, maybe they will announce it soon. I'm still waiting for ASH for the DS from Mistwalker to come to NA, but I'm starting to think it's not coming to NA.

...Why the Hell not?
