Is this same for modded hard drive?

yes.

Any hard drive that is not exactly as microsoft sells it to you will lock you out. and you will not be able to access any more of your data.

Basically what this is is another push by microsoft to force more money out of the people who will spend it.

this is a push against piracy and I can't wait for it.

Great job MS!

afaik there are some people downloading games and saving it directly on the HDD. Then connect the HDD to the xbox360 and play it from the HDD (u do not have to insert a dvd) but the 20 GB was not big enough so they used other HDDs to get more games on it. With the 120GB or 250GB, things have changed quite a bit.

I know there is this DVD-flash-stuff thing, which is kind of mainstream for piracy, but I read about this way too.

----

and from MS perspective: Why should you allow unlicensed hardware work on your console? you do not make any money with it and your hardware accessories won't sell. It is your product at the end of the day.

I'm tired so this is going to be short.

The first part isn't true (about xbox 360s booting isos off a harddrive), you might be thinking of the Wii.

So given that the piracy card you played is BS, you are all for microsoft stopping users from using third party harddrives because Microsoft doesn't make any money. I assume users are doing this so they can, among other things, store more paid content, movies, and DLC. You know... things that make Microsoft money. Some people want to give Microsoft more money by purchasing more content, but think that the asking price for an actual MS drive is too much, so they buy a third party drive. This course of action strikes me as something reasonable.

The degree to which some people support decisions that are patently bad for them and solely adventageous to companies never ceases to amaze me.

My 3rd party memory card caused my Hard drive to crash

This is a good thing people

No, it's not a good thing. This is only a move to make more money off suckers purchasing hard drives for 3-4 times their worth.

Hey it works for Apple and their customers seem to love being rogered through the wallet.

Fuc* that i wont buy hard drives so i dont care.

The only thing i might buy is Controllers , the new Wirless thing and the HDMI Cable.

Wait a second here...

Am I crazy or are people in here supporting the company and not the consumer? O_o

What is so wrong about buying 3rd party memory cards or upgrading your own HDD to save yourself from overpaying $50-100? MS 512 card is $30. Datel 2GB card is $40. I remember going 3rd party routes to save myself a good amount of money in my PS1/2 days. Choice = Good.

You know PS3 allows you to use any HDD you want and piracy isn't a worry at all. It isn't the HDDs to blame for piracy, it is MS weak firmware security. That is like blaming Sandisk Pro Duos for PSP piracy.

Even with the HDD excuse, it still doesn't explain how forcing people to use only 1 brand of memory card is a good thing. That doesn't help with anything.

Next you will hear that I can't hook up my 360 to my laptop for internet connection and only have the option of buying a $99 adapter.

The more people allow them to go this route, the more they will push it.

Give them an inch and they will go a mile.

As I said though, as of now this does not affect me, but it still sucks big time for those it does.

yeah because it's a lot easier to download 4-6 gig files from a 360 DVD, then 30-50 gig files from a Blu-Ray

Or how about there is no known way yet to run PS3 games off an HDD and/or external storage device?

You don't know what you're talking about.

Even if file size had something to do with it, we would still see people doing it anyways. Plus, there are plenty of PS3 games under 10GB.

Show me solid proof that what brand of 2.5" HDD you use determines whether or not piracy is possible. You do know of course that the 360 HDD is just a standard 2.5" HDD right?
