Forums - Sales - If there is a $149 360 ARCADE this year, WHAT would happen?

A $150 price cut in the US I think would make the 360’s outsell Sony for sure. There are great games coming out and I can almost see those $149.99 commercials now side by side with MW2.

Nothing, because their won't be one.

It would devalue the xbox 360 as it just had a series of price reductions. You need to space price cuts or you will start alienating customers who just purchased your product

It's only been about a year since the last Arcade price cut. I think they are okay to do so as long as they wait until holiday season.

You also have to factor in that the Arcade unit is for the casual gamer/family unit, so its not so much about what the price was, but rather the fact that they can purchase an Xbox 360 and still have 150 dollars to work with, as opposed to a 299$ Slim. It would be a great move, but who knows if they'll actually make it.

Nintendo and Sony will play the parpherial game saying to get the true value out of a 150 xbox, you will need to pay for the following:

wifi, HDD blah blah we know the routine, also that price point brings in more competition from the Nintendo DS and PSP which in terms of casuals the Xbox will lose 99.9% of the time.

Until internal components become cheaper a $199 xbox is fine, they can add a hdd or bundle a full game and it will have better results than a price cut imo of course.

There wouldn't be any competition between handhelds and home consoles.  People looking for one won't magically switch to the other.  In fact if anything it would have the reverse affect of what you suggested.  People will go look for PSPs and DSi's and see a 360 for cheaper than that, see what all extra it offers like HD gaming, marketplace, Netflix, arcade games, Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, demos, videos, etc. and choose a home console Xbox 360 over a handheld.  Just saying.

Yes but if they are going for a handheld, they won't pay attention to that.

Its only Japan where handhelds challeneg consoles

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

not alot if im honist, there would be a sales bump but once people go into the shop as see that arcade has nothing compared to the Elite they will probs just not bother or pay the extra, dont thibk microsoft want to lower the price anyfurther due to the fact by 2011 the 360 would probs just be free lol, companys have to think about time scale

No kidding!  In less than 3 years the PS3 dropped to half it's original price.  The 360 on the other hand not quite 4 years old and still maintains 75% of the original cost!  Sony needs to think about time scale for crying out loud or they'll be giving away PS3's for free by 2011!

Nothing major.

Then in theory their system will half the price of the playstation, and be the cheapeast on the market. It'd even be cheaper then most handhelds. I don't think they would do it though, they might pack in Natal in all systems and keep the prices. For 150$ to play all those games would be amazing though.

I don't see why price cuts are what people focus on now for the better system sales. Yea, it's great and all, but how it stands, the console princings are fine. The question is what will both companies bring to the table now in terms of content, bundles, etc.

$299 PS3 will still outsell a $149 Arcade. If not then I'll eat my hat.
