Forums - Gaming - name the rpg that best represents your gaming taste in the genre

Just playing my first RPG at the moment.
Funny really as I have been gaming many years.
I am sort of envious that I have avoided this genre for so long having read the amount of games folks are posting.

Any way I am playing fallout 3 at the moment and have 70 plus hours clocked up.
I can honestly say I am glad I took the time to pick up this game and stick with it.
It is fascinating but frustrating and addictive.

I have put off doing the last 2 quests for the moment as I am not sure I want it to end yet.
I also have to add I am confused a lot of the time.

Hope I did not de rail thread as I know it is asking folks there fav rpg.
I reckon I will go for mass effect next.

Just a final note,I have always been a shooter fan so this is a big jump for me.
I just felt I had to comment as the diversity in answers is amazing to me in terms of games.

final fantasy 6.

Despite my general preference towards JRPG, the best RPG I have ever played is Planescape Torment, the absolutely stunning story has yet to be matched by any game to date and the character development was amazing.

Superb in every aspect, it truly is the best RPG of all time.

Chrono Trigger has everything I could ask for in a game.

Great soundtrack. great story. lovable characters (every single one of them) and great battle system (dual and triple techs rule). What else could you ever ask for?

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Xenogears - Fantastic story, deep characters, awesome and unique battle system and captivating music. Everything an rpg needs to have.

Faery Tale Adventure, followed closely by Oblivion. Nothing else even comes close.

I cannot name one, however I can name three.

Dragon Quest VIII - Emphasis on Exploration, NPC interaction, evolved battle engine, balanced difficulty, Item crafting system, detailed world, amazing music
Chrono Trigger - Unique tech based combat, unique story and scenario based ideas that drive the game, multiple ways to play through encouraging replays, excellent art and scenario direction, amazing music
Diablo II - Item Collection and customization, equipping system, customizable characters, unique and responsive action based combat, vast areas to explore

These are the three games which influence my RPG tastes.
