Forums - Gaming - Selnors Top 3 racing games of N64,PSX and Saturn days.

Well it was a great era for games. but 3 games stood out to me at the time. World Driver Championship, Gran Turismo 2 and Sega Rally. These 3 were in a league above the rest. The first 2 going for realism. I have given World Driver Championship the first place spot. Purely because for it's time it was light years ahead in graphics, but also physics ( partly due to N64's far superior power over PS1, it coud handle alot more ) but it truly had a wow factor for any race fan back then. It's lighting was out of this world for those console days. Although GT had real cars, it was a bit weaker in the driving aspects, but made up for it in the length and as I said cars. Anyways heres 3 videos of each. :)

1. World Drivers Championship.

2. GT2

3. Sega Rally

you really like the racing genre don't you? i never played any of these but i really don't play any racers lacking the words "mario" and "kart".

Selnor put a GT game in the list? Haha odd. And I would have the original NFS top :)

Please dont call the PSone a PSX
even though that was the code-name for it, the offical name was never PSX

a PSX is a PS2 with a hard drive and loads of other things only ever launched in japan

(sorry it really annoys me lol) nice thread btw

You really like driving sims, don't you? I mean, no mention of Wipeout or F-Zero X? They were great for what they were.

Nice list you got there Selnor, and thanks for the Lisbon Track video, i remember it vividly because I played a lot in it xD.

To me the list would be a bit different, with GT2 nº1, Sega Rally nº2 and F1 Pole Position nº3

F1 Pole Position was ok, but F1 World Grand Prix 2 killed it for me. Still, WDC drew me in and had smoother framerate and better physics than all other driving games at the time. Thats what did it for me.

I liked WDC too, but at the time I was a heavy F1 fan, even though I still am today, in those days I even got up at 5 am to watch the free trials on the Suzuka and Adelaide tracks, so that why I have a better impression of F1 Pole Position than WDC ;)

I guess there's a few ways to look at it. I can go back right now and play Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, WipEout XL, Daytona USA and San Francisco Rush. If I went back and play the games on the original list I'd probably find them largely outdated and hardly playable by today's standards. Think of it similar to what would be easier to go back to, NFL Blitz or NFL Gameday 99 and Madden 99.
