Well it was a great era for games. but 3 games stood out to me at the time. World Driver Championship, Gran Turismo 2 and Sega Rally. These 3 were in a league above the rest. The first 2 going for realism. I have given World Driver Championship the first place spot. Purely because for it's time it was light years ahead in graphics, but also physics ( partly due to N64's far superior power over PS1, it coud handle alot more ) but it truly had a wow factor for any race fan back then. It's lighting was out of this world for those console days. Although GT had real cars, it was a bit weaker in the driving aspects, but made up for it in the length and as I said cars.
