Forums - Gaming - If Natal fails, What's next for Microsoft (Xbox360) ?

If Natal "fails," Microsoft will just try again, building a new console re-organized around Natal (though not to the detriment of Microsoft's burgeoning core gaming platform)

Price Drop? You have to remember 360 can always be cheaper than PS3.

it already is $100 cheaper than the ps3

If Natal fails I hope they launch a powerful Xbox 3 console in Nov 2011 with Elder Scrolls V as a launch title.

He should have said, it can always be 50% cheaper than PS3.   It should be $149/249.  Only thing holding them back is their plans for Natal bundling.

Also, I have a feeling this thread was started because someone is upset at all the attention Natal is getting while Sony's Wand "Sphere" tech is getting nothing in comparison.

I mean, he even tries to shrug it off as if Sony doesn't want their wand to be a main aspect of the console and are only devoting a minor effort to it.  He even thinks R&D on Natal is more than the Sony Wand?  The Sony Wand has been in development since PS2 days!!!  The only reason you are posting this is because all the developers, news outlets, industry leaders, etc. are supporting Natal, giving great feedback about it, or are very overall enthusiastic about it and it's completely overshadowing the PS3's motion control attempts right now and you are feeling a little sour about it.

At least that's the impression I get.  Forgive me if you genuinely did not realize this.

If Natal fails, then the 360 is doomed, and they have no choice but to move on to their next console (unless they find another new gadget to extend the 360's lifespan). I don't think the 360 will cease until it's been pushed to its limits.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

If Natal fails, Microsoft will just continue to release new iterations of their big series and have them sell millions. I really doubt Halo will end with Halo: Reach, nor will Gears of War end with Gears 3. And this will be continued into their next console as well, so nothing will really change.

Im sure I'm not the only one that thinks MS is relying very heavily on Natal and Sony has never really relied on motion controls that much

For this generation, Microsoft have further flexibility on price, Natal and the ability to pump out a cashcow like Halo or Gears once every year.

A $149 Arcade or $199 Elite would sell very well, but it might be somewhat a case of diminished returns, since the 360 is already at a very wallet-friendly pricepoint.

Natal could shift a few million units, but it won't be a gamechanger in the same way that the Wiimote was.

Halo/Gears will continue to sell gangbusters, but will have minimal hardware impact.

Microsoft are in a very healthy position.

if natal fails....ill be very happy
