Forums - Gaming - Are Microsoft Planning new machine?

First, it is "Is Microsoft planning a new machine" not "are".
Are is correct in all English speaking countries in the world except USA. Remember that you are not the only English speaking nation in the world. A company when used as a proper noun in English(UK) is plural. Therefore "Are Microsoft planning a new machine" is perfectly acceptable.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

 yep!

except in canada, it's also "is".

actually, i've been living in the states too long to remember if that's the case in canada...

the Wii is an epidemic.

The next xbox will come out at Nov/2010 at the latest, maybe even as early as Nov/2009.

I wonder how early MS actually plans on launching the 360's successor though.

I know this article is discussed on these forums but not with this point of view.

Heres what I think.

If true it's a major slip of the toungue. An announcement in 2009 could mean release in 2011.

This is 6 years after the 360 debut, about right for a consoles lifespan. Culd it be Microsofts next machine?

Please read the article more closely next time, it's pretty obvious they're talking about a 360 with a built in HD-DVD drive, otherwise why would they even say it might debut in late 2008?

How stupid can people get? This is obviously just a new SKU of the existing machine.

They wouldn't be planning a date for releasing the next console yet.

If the 360 turns into a PS2 style success, they'll want to release at a different date compared to if it was a gamecube style third. It's still too early in this generation to know how things are going.

But I'd have thought all three companies are involved in provisional planning for future generations.

There is little likelihood the 360 will become a PS2 style success with its lack of a Japanese market. It's highest ambition now is to stay in second place and outdo the original Xbox, MS can worry about PS2 style glory when the 360's successor comes around.
