The numbers are ALOT closer than I would have expected...

Well VGC was spot on with the 360 and VGC had the difference correct but totals low for the PS3 and Wii.....what exactly is closer....its not 360 an dPS3 because thats a larger margin than we would have expected based on Bretts numbers?

Care to elaborate?

I was thinking about the Wii and PS3...I expected it to be a little wider...Wii cut happened on the first.  As for the 360 and PS3...it's about where I expected it to be...the 360 dropped it's price to match the PS3, but other than Halo ODST at the end of hte month, there wasn't much catalyst to boost sales, whereas PS3 had the hype of the Slim's launch.  We will have to see how things shake out in Oct, but November and December are going to be the month of deals...

Yeah thats what people keep saying, but how is it surprising when VGC numbers for the same period were also 30k plus in the PS3's favor?

This isnt surprising, what gives with this rationale?

My only surprise is the Wi and PS3 aggregate is higher, so the penetration for the month shows more growth over the 360, which surprised me since VGC was spt on with the 360.

Why were you expecting a bigger gap, what info are you using. This site showed they were close all month. The only thing I see is both console being slighly undertracked but keeping about the same gap.

Why is it the people who questioned and predicted the least from the Slim are the same acting like the Wii overcame something. This is the first time the PS3 has done this, let go of the hate for once.

Exactly this sites main debates revolve around PS3-Wii-360.

NPD had the same as VGC for 360 and the ratios for Wii and PS3 the same. The only thing that is "surprising" if you could even say that is the volume of PS3 and Wii, which are good for the industry and videogame fans as its creating more parody in the states, at least in terms of PS3 to 360.....since the Wii pretty much just eats PS3 and 360 sales and shits them out for nintendo in the form of money.

Nintendo's action and statments...they fiercely denied a Wii's price cut...like 3 days before the cut, so it seemed like...and this is only from my perception...that they got some early data, and thought...CRAP...we need a price cut, pronto!  Anyway...I simply thought VGc's numbers were higher for the Wii, and a bigger gap was going to be the case.  The other surprise is that the 360 eeeked out higher Y-O-Y numbers, in the face of the Slim's launch...

So youre just surprised that VGC was so accurate? Thats pretty good then.

I dont see how the PS3 effects the 360 sales at this point in the life cycle, all things considered, when the 360 is already in twice as many homes as the PS3 theres bound to be some people who own a 360 buying a PS3 coupled with people who wanted a PS3 that were waiting for the drop, its not a stagnant market where there can be only 100% sales for the 360 and PS3 and consumers must choose one or the other.

The fact that 140k more people bought a PS3 than a 360 is far more significant to me than anything at this point.

Evidently, you want to focus on some PS3 vs. 360 debate...no interested...Great numbers for the PS3 in the month.  My comments were about the Wii, since I thought it was going to be worst off than it was.  I'm not sure what's to debate about the great results posted by the PS3...it's up 100%...Y-o-Y, the Wii is down, but not as bad as I expected, whereas the 360 is up...so it would seem the Wii was the one who took the most damage from the PS3's cut, not the 360.

BTW, from an analytical standpoint, what does it mean if the 140K number drops to almost 30k for the month of October?  What's the analytical significance, you're thinking about?

Nah, im just posted my thoughts on the numbers, im not trying to focus on anything.

Of course the Wii is going to be down YOY, the enormous sales were unsustainable.

The reason, imo, why 360 is constant YOY is because theyve done a good job of spacing the pricecuts and its pretty healthy for MSFT and the 360.

The wii was not damaged by the PS3 it was damaged because it was unsustainable at last years numbers.

Why are people on here saying the Wii had 8 days of price cut effect? It only had 2-3 days!
