Forums - Sales - my thoughts on the sales war between sony and m$

Like I said many times Natal will do nothing for hardware sales (Same as the PS Wand or Sphere or whatever there calling it). The only thing Microsoft can do is cut the price by $100 on the Elite to have sales better then PS3, but then again it'll only be a matter of time till the PS3 cuts the price then it'll be the PS3 ahead again. The X360 had a year start, sales are going to start going downhill while PS3's continue to go up, it's only natural.

There's not much Microsoft can do. There dead in Japan and there's pretty much nothing they can do to save them (unless they some how get FFXIII, but that looks highly doughtful). There already dying (<--fixed) in Others and GT5 will be the nail in the coffin for that. The only region they have going for them is America, and as big as America is it won't be enough to save them.

"There already dying in Others"

Er how so?

isn't this argument just a tacit acknowledgement that the 360 is an inferior machine that can't win in a heads up contest?  i think that it is.

discuss.

I don't want to do something because you tell me to.  You have reached your own conclusions, and not sure what you expect people to tell you.  You up to being corrected here?  What do you want to be discussed?

Anyhow, the Playstation brand is pretty strong, the 360 did have RROD issues, and the price point was an issue.

By the way, I am curious what you think if the PS3 were priced at $200.  Would it blow away the Wii worldwide?

first thing how do you know natal will do nothing to sales, i dont know neither does microsoft(they are expecting it to do good but they didnt sell it yet so how do they know) so how do you know. by the way xbox 360 is ahead by 1 mil in others so if ps keeps outselling xbox 360 by 50k they will need atleast 20 weeks but i dont think micrososft will let playstation outsell them in others or atleast they will try to.  ps its unlinkiley that ps3 will come in second this generation but its possible which i hope not.

PS3 is out selling 360 because its half the price...

well let's just think about that.

at 200 bucks the ps3 would be one of the cheapest blu-ray players on the market.  that in and of itself would sell huge numbers.  secondly, the wii was being outsold by the ps3 last month even though the wii was 50 bucks cheaper.  now while this may be due to the reduction in demand in anticipation for a price cut, the truth is that the post price cut spike was nowhere near what it was for when the slim launched.  this tells me that the wii has already squeezed the majority of the juice out of the market.  i think the equilibrium point for the wii at 200 bucks will probably be somewhere in the range of where it is for the slim...even with a 100 dollar cost disparity.

so you tell me how it would do?  i think the numbers speak for themselves.

Its a battle to the death for second place.

The Wii barely glances over its shoulder as it carries on to victory town.

Seriously tho the Wii has beaten off the big boys this gen. Expect lessons to be learnt.

As for the HD console battle it seems to see saw to whomever has had recent a price drop.

If you think Microsoft is dead in others, was the PS3 dead just a few weeks back when it was being outsold by M$ then?

So far this gen there are a few things that are certain. Nothing has played out like last gen, the ones who can cut prices the most useually win (HD) until the other cuts prices more. When Natal comes out there will either be 2 things happen. 1) it will be a major success and breath life into the 360 or 2) it will be mediocre and the next xbox will come out sooner than later.

Either way this isn't good for Sony because it wouldn't be able to keep up with a new box being released or a gigantic success of natal. Not to mention the Wii HD will probably be out sooner than later as well.

Is the 360 inferior or on par to the Wii, or is it markedly superior as far as raw horsepower goes, and media functionality?  Maybe one can argue it is because of RROD.  Beyond that though?  Well, the Wii outsold the 360.  The reasons?  I would have to say it had to do not only with the cheap price, but the fact that the Wii was based around motion control, and being accessible to the masses.  Where would having a same price point make a difference here, if the PS3 fails to have motion control and being easy to get into like the Wii is?

As far as being a cheap blu-ray player, that presumes there are masses that want blu-ray.  Last I checked, masses aren't lining up to get a player that requires buying new disks all over, and a shift to digital downloads is what is happening.  Even a Sony executive speculated the next Playstation may not even have a place to put in physical digital media.

i think you can rule out a next gen xbox coming out, as dev's would not be able to develop for it anyway.

next gen crappy games
