Forums - Gaming - What is the appeal behind JRPGs

*checks*

You're EU anyway. EarthBound is the best game on that list that I've played, but it was an SNES game that was never released in the EU anyway.

I don't think you would like it, regardless. It can be hard for a lot of people to get.

I agree with this thread. I just dont understand how people can like this genre.

My understanding of JRPGs is that they are:

- linear

- have arena fights

- have Manga people and children, which I find no attraction in

- their settings, worlds and chracters feel very artificial and cheezy

- their stories are childish and overly melodramatic

JRPGs have you beaten this generation or any generation?

None.

Then you have no ground to stand upon for your claims.

Well then you don't know jack shit about them so maybe you shouldn't even comment when this thread is clearly made to answer those who have actyally played them.

But I don't have to finish a game to give a qualified opinion. Plus I can watch the endings on GameAnyone.

Yes you do. I can not watch a game and know how the quality of it. That might be the most heinous thing I've heard you say. You can not give a qualified opinion on the title until you get a long length of time to sit down and play it.

never played any Final Fantasy games, but Kingdom Hearts games were beast! It was basically like a really good book, that made you wonder whats gonna happen, and stuff like that.

Until the end of KH2 where Sora dies.
Jk.
Or am I?
Your gonna have to play the game to find out.
Or just search the ending on youtube.

So if you sit at a friends house and watch him play through a game you can't decide how good it is and wether you like it or not?

To me is the character development. I feel a part of me on each of the characters so I feel like I have to play it through to see how everything ends

I guess story and replay value.

@Garcian Smith

If you ever try to question my literary aptitudes then I'll make sure that I embarass you till hell comes knocking at your door.
I've read everything from John Milton's Paradise Lost, to Dostoyesky Crime and Punishement, Kafka's Amerika, Jose Saramago Blindness and The Stone Raft, Eça de Queiroz The Maias, Sartre Le Age d'raison...do you want me to continue or shall we take this a step further?

Any time you even wish to insult someone, at least have to decency to ask the person if what they said is based on their personal experience.

I like Eça de Queiroz, but I've never read The Maias. I've read Cousin Basilio though. It was really good.

And I've yet to read any of Anne Rice's novels, but I've seen the movie. Is it as good?

Only the original Interview with the Vampire novel is somthing of a masterpeice. The books that follow are goofy and uninpired.

is paper mario considered jrpg?

@Steroid

Yeah, The Interview with a Vampire is a masterpiece and one of the best vampire stories, on par with Bram Stocker's Dracula.
But you didn't like the continuation of the saga? I concede that the last books have been a bit of a let down, but Memnock the Devil and Tales of the Body Thief were superb as well.
