Besides Modern Warfare 2, the HD platforms also still have Assassin's Creed 2, which should do very well also.

psrock, I'm not sure Final Fantasy will actually make it into the top 5 for the PS3. Right now for the PS3 I think it is shaping up to be.

All of those games I think will be around the 1.5 million mark or above by the time Final Fantasy XIII launches in Japan. If it does make it into the top 5 though, it won't really be adding that much to the PS3 total because it will just be replacing a game that sold slightly less than it.

It's amazing to see how far the PS3 has come, PS3 is selling more software now.

I'd say FFXIII would be second behind MW2 and ahead of U2.

FFXIII will only be released in Japan in 2009 and even there it only has 3 weeks before 2010 starts. The chance it will be able to get above Uncharted or Fifa within that timeframe is almost nonexistant.

Updated the chart in the original post with this weeks numbers. The overall standings remain the same, but this weeks rankings were PS3>Wii> 360.
WiiFit+ became the first game released in this time frame to sell 2 million plus, and the PS3 got its 3rd million seller with Pro Evolution Soccer, while Wi and 360 still just have 1 million + seller each. Next week should be very interesting with the release of Modern Warfare 2, both HD consoles totals will get huge boosts, and since the 360 version is selling better, it may be enough to shorten the gap (or even erase it) with the PS3 if first week sales are something like 5 million 360 3 million PS3. Wii will obviously be left far behind with New Super Mario Bros. data not being in until the following week.

So what do you all think, with the reports of how big Modern Warfare 2 will be, is Wii officially out of this contest, or will NSMB Wii, and the holiday boosts Wii FIt+ and Mario and Sonic will be getting be enough for it to remain competitive?

It should be interesting next week to see how much of the top 5 makes up of total sales on the HD platforms with the release of Modern Warfare 2. Also I just rechecked the preliminary figures on Modern Warfare 2, with the data saying that 2.2 million more copies were sold on 360 than PS3, which would be enough for the 360 to take the lead. If the 360 does take the lead, do you think it will remain in front or will the PS3 overtake it again?

I can't really see PS3 regain the lead once it loses it. 3 of the titles in its list will almost certainly end up in its final top 5 and these games probably saw most of its sales already. Modern Warfare 2 will probably continue to sell better on Xbox 360 which will only increase the gap. The last spot will probably be filled by Assassins Creed 2, which won't help it gain any ground on the Xbox 360 either.

ODST will probably sell a lot this holiday season. I think to decide which game will sell the most this holiday season, its between New Super Mario Bros Wii and Modern Warfare 2.
