Forums - Gaming - The Review System is Broken!!

The sheer inconsistencies found in Gaming reviews is outrageous and we need to address this problem immediately. When the reviews for GTA4 started coming in, cracks in the system began to emerge. No disrespect to Grand Theft Auto 4 which is an outstanding game but the game's metacritic score should have been 90-94 below San Andreas. But the 98 score is outrageous, after GTA4's review Gamers began questioning the accuracy of the gaming reviews.

More cracks in the system began emerging when EDGE reviewed games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2. The sheer inconsistency and unprofesionalism shown by EDGE was truly upsetting. Their reviews are quite frankly rubbish and I for one look forward to their Uncharted 2 review.

Eurogamer in the past has also been very inconsistent with their review scores, however in recent months they have gotten their act together. However we must still address those past biased and inaccurate reviews. But for the time being we will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Gametrailers they dont how to review games plain and simple. They mentioned the reason that Uncharted 2 received a 9.3 was because of it's lack of originality. That really makes me angry they have given high marks to games that not only lack originality but have not expanded the franchise. Uncharted 2 has a made a huge leap from Uncharted, GT knows they fucked up on the U2 review hence why they are explaining their error.

The only way that the review system can be fixed, is if EDGE and Gametrailers stop reviewing games immediately. They are 60% responsible for the inconsistency found in gaming reviews. Another recommendation that can fix the review system is forcing Gametrailers/Edge on a 'Gaming review course' on how to review Ps3 exclusives accurately. This course should be at least 2 years with transport costs included.

I hope in time our review system will heal but with GT and EDGE still reviewing games that looks unlikely.

Who needs reviews anymore, virtually every game has a demo.

And the main problem with reviews is taking an opinion and turning it into a value from 1-100.
Of course reviews are rubbish.

Edge's reviews are great, people just don't understand that contrary to most, they actually use a 1-10 scale and not a 7-10 scale.

I do agree that Gametrailers and EDGE are inconsistent with their reviews. But I think that was mainly during the times when everyone hated the PS3. Right everyone is briging their act together.

Stop worrying about game reviews so much because they will always be subjective as long as humans are reviewing them. I look at reviews as a rounding guideline and then add my own subjective view into the mix.

Lol, I wondered why would Monty make a thread like this one, lol.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Demos tend to fool most people. It's not accurate enough because most demos represent an earlier build as opposed to the final. If demos are released it must be a full build (which is rare). Take Batman Arkham Asylumn. We got a full build demo of that game, which is why it was so great, but Too Human on the 360 had a beta build which is why so many people were disappointed in the final product.
