Wow. The op seems just as bad as the person who gave the game a 3. I agree that rating Halo 3 a 3 is very unrealistic. But to say that anyone who rates the game an 8 or lower is doing it to try and lower the average is just rediculous. I was pretty amazed to see Garnet give Gears of War 2 a score of 5 when it is imo the best game on 360 but it was his opinion and he is a 360 fan and most certainly not a fanboy of any other system. People just have a difference of opinion. But I think you are just as absurd as the people who actually do that because you actually believe that if people diagree with you and the media there is some hidden reason for their rating.

i'm not saying everybody does this, quite the contrary, most people rate games fairly and media too, but take that 3 score for mario galaxy as an example, can you honestly say that you feel that the 3 score could be justified? honestly?? at what point do you say that it just isn't justified?

If you read what I said, I agreed that the score of a 3 was rediculous and was most likely done for the wrong reasons. But you saying somebody rating a game with a freakin 8 is also doing it for the wrong reasons is just rediculous. I for one rated Halo 3 a 7.5 but I could care less what rating it finally ends up with. To me, it was a mediocre game, and no public opinion or critic can tell me what games I can enjoy, love, dislike, or find mediocre.

I would say halo 3 was a lil more than mediocre... but thats just me. I think for the most part people have done a good job voicing why they think games received the certain rankings they gave it.

Ya but what about most people's opinions and people you trust? are you telling me you trust no one?! not even yourself? if you truly know a game's good then you should trust yourself too you know

like with GTA4 a lot of reviewers gave it high scores but the gaming community had it's own opinion, and i also have friends who i trust their opinions, they said it was great (fantastic even) but maybe reviewers went too high with all those 10s. and I played it a bit, not enough to review it but enough to get an idea, and i think the game is great and it has huge production values... i just don't like shooting or the gta formula in general, but i can honestly say that it's a good game :)

BUT i won't go around scoring GTA4 a score like 8 or 7 KNOWING that it will lower that game's average just cuz i don't like it... that would just be mean, nasty and dishonest

Are you saying people should rate the game on other people's opinion, not there own?

Let me ask you this, who's more likely to be more biased, one person or the entire gaming community and reviewers... etc?

but let make an example, i don't like shooters (like i said in another reply) therefore i most likely won't enjoy them, but i don't go around hating on other peple's favourite games :) and i don't think i would let myself vote in a shooter game rating pole, why? cuz i would be biased considering the fact that i don't like shooters.

apply that logic to people who don't like a certain franchise or a certain console.

Thats not really true though. I said I didn't like shooters.. meaning I don't like shooters as a whole. I don't like racers either..the only racer I play is GT and can't really stand anything else. It's not really because I'm Biased. Its because up until this moment I haven't played another racer I enjoyed as much as GT. So if someone said do you like racers I would say no but I like GT. same with shooters. I don't like shooters I liked the original halo and nothing else really excited much to care for the genre. So if I don't like shooters I can't voice my opinion.I never hated on halo 3 I gave it a 8 and explained why. I can't see how giving an 8 is hating.

i didn't mean you in particualr :/  i meant peple who rate game REALLY low like 3 or something.

i can't speak for you, but for me i tried playing Halo on my friend;s Xbox 360, and i played Crysis too + other shooter just to try them, and i know people say they are good games but i just didn't enjoy them, i can't help it :(

sooo, if someone asked me (personally) what my opinion was i would say that i didn't like it, and if i HAD TO rate a shooter game i'd probably rate it pretty low BUT that doesn't mean my vote should count, i know i'm biased against shooters i can't help it SO i simply don't play them and don't give my opinion on them OR rate them and ruin people's fun.

again i can't speak for you, this is just me and what i would honestly say/do :)

know a games good??? I don't know any game is good until I play it.... There was some pretty low scores with the other games that I didn't agree with but when people give reasoning behind there scores how can you not count them?

if you think a game's good then that's your opinion and you may have seen something in it noone else could, but when you say a game's bad when the majority of THE WORLD says it's good... i dunno, look at it how you wish

it's really difficult to tell who does this, i'm not saying anyone who doesn't think a game is all that great is a liar. but even if i don't like a particualr game you don't see me stomping all over people's joy and excitement for a game by saying: "hey i hate this game, it sucks!!". there really is never a need for that really.

like i personally don't like Shooters, so therefore i won't enjoy any of the following games: Halo, The Conduit, Killzone, Gears... etc, but you'll never find me posting negative comments in threads about these games. it's just in bad taste and uncalled for. why ruin someone's joy? i know not everyone like the games i like so i appreciate that most people don't just go around posting bad stuff about them :)

that's just what i think, no need to agree ;)

fair enough. With respect to anyone who has voted in the vgchartz game ranking threads.. The OP posted the rules and for the most part I think it is going really well. People who are voting usually give reasons why they feel a certain way about a game. As a matter of fact I would say that thread he has started is the best series of threads I ever participated in on this website. but with you I can see your point I just see it differently.

ya i love those threads too, but they should take the mode like Orca_Azure suggested, maybe it would be more fair and better represent the vgcharts community

and that way no single bad person can do anything to ruin the thread :)

what did orca_Azure suggest? I missed that one I'm not to up on the happenings of the site.

LOL, It's in this thread, he suggested to take the mode from the scores ;)

lol oh I missed that. that would be an interesting outcome..

Well some people make themselves look like a fanboy so it seems like there purposely lowering the score.

It's just as dishonest to give a game a higher score just to counter a lower one. Isn't it supposed to be based on your personal experience with the game?

If you're that worried about people intentionally lowering the score then use the mode or median. They both ignore outliers. Though you should go with the median and not mode.

Big huge thanks for making this thread!

I am glad to see someone else acknowledge this obvious phenomeon. Plus I felt like the evil bad guy for highlighting it in that thread.

"I was beginning to think that there was no good to be found in this place"

As a comparison, look at the shitstorm on Gametrailers about the score Geoff Keighley gave to Uncharted 2 - 9.3.
Theres even a big thread here on VGC about it:
http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=88728

If people feel it's okay to criticise GT for being X360 biased and giving Uncharted 2 only 9.3, why can't I criticise the behaviour of only giving a 8.3 average to Halo 3 by the Sony community here?
