Forums - Gaming - have you ever noticed THIS in the forums? especially in game raking threads

You all know about those vgchartz raking game rank X game threads. Well I noticed something quite interesting. It was this thread in particular that Slimebeast posted something that got me thinking, I saw that some voters were actually voting down other people's favourite games just so they would score lower than that voter's favourite game. what kind of person does this?

Now in the thread, it was pretty obvious to me (and i mean really obvious) what some voters were trying to do. people would give a great game low scores just to mess with the average of that game. people might say that a score of 8 isn't bad, but in a ranking game such as this it has a huge impact on the game's final score, and even if you get all 9.5s just a few fanboy scores can ruin an average (even a few 8s, imagine what a couple of 7s and 6s could do, or even a 3! LOL)

It's so sad that the worst part about all of this is that there is infact zero proof that people do this so there's pretty much no point in arguing about it for too long and getting all worked up about it. I HIGHLY doubt anyone who does this will acutally admit it (i mean come on)

There will always be people who care about ranking games enough to score people's favourite games low, and i for one don't care enough to go around pretending to have played a game just so i can rate that game badly.

The funny thing is that there's no way you can prove that you played a game and no way someone can prove that you didn't, i could just say right now that i have an Xbox 360 or a PS3 and i buy most of my games for either and all i would have to do is add them to my collection (not even necessary) i could downplay anyone i wanted, no one would have proof of what i was doing.

i just think that it's sad that there's nothing anyone can do about it (no proof), it's called 'stealth trolling' for a reason. I guess that's the console war for ya! And I know that there is no such thing as a 100% unbiased human being but when you feel the need to diss other people who don't like what you like and downplay them, it's just crazy and sick IMO

So, do you notice this in the forums? or on voting/ranking threads especially?... Have YOU ever done it??? even subconsciously?

how was it so obvious to you? I'm just curious.

I'm not martin luther king. I don't have a dream. I have a plan

Sell a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish you just ruined a perfect business opportunity.

We didn't emerge out of the stone age because we ran out of stones. Its time to be proactive not reactive.

You speak the truth.

But it's not that important really. Don't trouble yourself with those kinds of things. Like you said, there's nothing that can be done about it.

Opinions suck.

How dare someone rate down my favourite game, the best game EVAR!

Hm, next time i see FFXIII in a poll, i'll vote it down just to spite carl :o

I don't think there have been a lot of people that have purposely rated games low to mess with the average score.  I know there's a few, but thats just the way things go and there's not much anyone can do about it.

I hate you... Twice

I guess it was judging by the post history of a voter who would give a pretty unresonable review, i mean a 3 is pretty easy to see but maybe a 7 or an 8 for a game that is clearly better than that would be "stelthier" like someone over in the Halo 3 thread posted.

and by 'clearly better' i mean by professional and amateur reviews, most people's opinion (who obviously played it and not someone who can't answer a simple question about a game), generally the opinion of a trusted person. and it's clear when even most fans of a competing console say it's good you know it's good :)

Perhaps rather than taking the average, they should take the mode.

4th grade math comes to the rescue.
