Hard not to say that about the cases where the English voice actors put WAY more angst and "edginess" into their deliveries than the Japanese voice actors do. It's like they say, "oh I've been hired to do an anime which is a very edgy foreign art form so I better talkum really cooooollll!!!!!!1" While the Japanese voice actors tend to have much more diversity in their own deliveries.
I do speak a litttle Japanese, but not fluently, and that's my impression of why English dubs generally suck. I had the impression before I really started learning the language, too.
